Development of Brightburn Sequel Officially Announced.
A follow-up to the 2019 superhero horror film "Brightburn," produced by James Gunn, is currently under development.
According to Deadline, The H Collective, the production company behind Brightburn, is launching a new subsidiary named H3 Entertainment. This new venture aims to merge the Metaverse, Web3, and AI, establishing a fresh lineup of projects. In light of the increasing concerns about AI's role in Hollywood, H3 Entertainment pledges to value both industry professionals and fans, emphasising ethical tech incorporation. One of the upcoming projects that will integrate these technologies is the Brightburn sequel. As of now, no details about the director, cast, or scriptwriters have been disclosed.
The original Brightburn, directed by David Yarovesky and with James Gunn as a producer, showcased a dark reinterpretation of the classic Superman origin story. The narrative revolves around an extraterrestrial child, Brandon Breyer (portrayed by Jackson A. Dunn), who arrives on Earth and is adopted by a rural couple (played by Elizabeth Banks and David Denman) in the quaint town of Brightburn, Kansas. As Brandon grows and realises his unique powers, he struggles with anger, ultimately unleashing terror on his town and loved ones. Though the film received a mix of reviews, it was a financial success, earning $32 million at the box office with a budget estimated between $6-12 million.
Post the release of Brightburn, hints of a sequel arose, especially after a mid-credit scene featuring a conspiracy theorist, Big T (played by Michael Rooker), discussed the terrors caused by Brightburn and other super-powered beings around the globe. In 2019, Gunn had hinted at sequel talks, stating, “Though I’m committed to Suicide Squad and Guardians for the coming years, we’re exploring the idea of a follow-up.”
Currently, Brightburn can be purchased on 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray and DVD. There's no official release date for "Brightburn 2" yet.
