Beloved Kate,

This, is one of very few letters that have undergone severalchanges as years have passed, and no other as many as four times. It is, inlarge, due to the enrichment you have brought to my existence, in suchquantities that previous versions proved insufficient. Our marriage, our daughter,and the everyday life that we have built for ourselves.

This revision, however, comes in the wake of my absence, andall that it entailed. I am aware, that other letters have already been opened –and it is a hope of mine that someday, I might atone for the pain caused by my presumeddeath, so that you might think it time to open this.

My vocabulary falls short in conveying my love for you, andthe utter devotion that follows. I hope that someday, I might find the words. Iam forever yours, no matter what is to follow.

A deceptively light chide, soft as the silk of Irene’s favoured restraints. She has circled closer, thumb settling against Kate’s bottom lip, the barest brush of caress – an unspoken reminder that the maid isn’t untouchable.

ROLLING onto the balls of her feet allows their lips to press together briefly, sweetly, demanding nothing but the warmth of it. And then another giggle.

❝Good thing I’ve bought like a million marshmallows then, huh?❞

SHE leads towards the couch, where a pleasant fire already dances within the fireplace, achingly careful in the handling of the small package. And once it is opened, Kate is nearly tackled in a firm hug, Samilia’s grin wide.

❝Thank you! I uh… assume you remembered me breaking my other one.❞ Her cheeks heat slightly.

Unlikely meeting

Shiren didn’t pay much attention to the other woman. The detective was conducting an experiment related to a case she was working on, so she certainly had more important things than manners to mind. "Feeling lonely?” it was one brief glance, her tone sarcastic and not very polite.

RETRIEVING a towel requires mere moments - divesting Kate of wet outerwear and guiding towards the crackling fire, only a few more. It is warm in the cozy semi-dimness of her home, illuminated by nothing more than a scattered handful of lamps, but even so, Harriette gestures towards the heatsource, quietly inviting her guest to find a seat close by it.

❝Do you have any meal preferences? Or allergies? I think a visit to the hospital would put a considerable dampener on the evening.❞
