What’s the deal with Val Moren…?

Is he actually mad? (I don’t really think so but maybe)

Is he scheming? Is he just there living his best life in retirement?

I know Jude would rather die (quite literally) than ask for help, but wouldn’t he be helpful? He is also mortal… he was seneschal for centuries (?) idk I don’t trust him but I can’t make an opinion yet 🤨

Why do you defend Snape so much?

[OOC: I want to say this before getting into the ask. He has done fucked up shit. Especially to Neville and Harry. I do NOT condone any of that shit, at all.

I defend him because I feel for him. He wasn’t the Perfect Hero. His trauma(don’t dare tell me there wasn’t some) had affects. Most of the trauma survivors in Harry’s generation are relatively well adjusted. This isn’t a bad thing, but it is something to notice. 

Our favorite Golden Trio is a great example. They still have shit wrong. You see the occasional affect. Harry still has nightmares and everything. But the events of First Year, where a man died by his hand? It wasn’t brought up again. Adults who kill in self-defense are affected. He was a literal eleven year old(Harry has a lot more examples, but this one stands out to me).

All of them had near death experiences that were never touched on again, but I want to go into other shit. So I will.

Ron? His rat, that he slept in the same room with for years, turned out to be a spy. Imagine learning that your pet, who you have lived with and most likely has been hearing all of your secrets, is a human. 

Not getting into the creep factor because I understand someone not thinking about it. But Ron is strategic as hell. He isn’t stupid. I refuse to believe he didn’t have a revelation during school that “If Scabbers was a spy, that means he’s heard everything we’ve said for about three years! He had access to everything we knew! He knows our weaknesses and our strengths! He knows what hurts deep!”

Imagine hearing that your enemy, who has tried to kill you and your friends, has all this knowledge about you. You are probably gonna be a bit paranoid for a bit. We don’t see any of that. We see him move on without it really being relevant that Voldemort’s spy has lived with his family for literal years and has heard his best friends’ weaknesses for about three.

Hermione? She got petrified in second year! That cannot be pleasant for anyone. I don’t know what being petrified is like and I don’t think we ever got a description. But no matter how you slice it, that has got to be scary.

That was...never brought up again. At all. Hermione was petrified.

Severus, though? With his backstory, his actions make sense. You can see how deeply HIS trauma affected him. You see it in how Harry looking like James makes it so he physically cannot think of them as separate. He sees Lily in the eyes, but James everywhere else. That’s actually really realistic. 

I cannot say that I’d be able to treat someone who looks just like my bully very well. Especially if it was their child and I didn’t have a way to exit the situation.

Remus and Sirius were actually pretty realistic, too. And so was Peter Pettigrew, but no one wants to talk how THAT conversation goes.

I understand that it was meant as a children’s series, and topics like this aren’t usually touched on. So I am not saying it was bad writing to not have trauma showing itself more. And as we go farther, this DOES change(not completely, but it does get better)

But I’m saying that Snape is one of the characters where we see the real world affects trauma can have. It doesn’t just go away. Trauma stays with you. And with Severus, we see that. ]
