Mikorei at a rose garden because Reisi thinks it will be romantic but he spends the whole time talking about plant facts and his childhood and taking pictures to turn into puzzles that always have his thumb in them or something and Mikoto just wants to make out with his boyfriend because he's cute

Oh my God, the puzzle pictures. They go to a botanical gardens like the Chicago Botanical Gardens (the only one I’m familiar with). They have all sorts of gardens like an English Rose Garden and a Japanese Garden and an Evergreen Garden. Anyway, Reisi has been to the Gardens a million times, so he knows all the facts about all the gardens and can tell immediately when the caretakers have changed something or planted something new. 

He’s never taken Mikoto there before, though, so this is a date and he’s so, so, so excited about bringing his boyfriend to one of his favorite places in the city.

Reisi pays for a private tour to get the full experience, but it turns out that he knows far more than the tour guide so he dismisses the tour guide halfway through and proceeds to tell Mikoto all about the gardens and plants by himself. This is all very cute, Mikoto thinks. He’s absolutely enthralled. Except Reisi keeps ruining the illusion by stopping to take pictures of the new things that have been added.

Realizing that this tour is going to last forever because Reisi keeps stopping to take pictures, Mikoto decides to just attack him right there and make out with him all hot and heavy in an attempt to coax him home. Mikoto was getting impatient to take him to bed anyway.

I actually really love Reisi’s dynamic with his family. I think in Case Files, we learn that Reisi is well aware that his family doesn’t understand him, that they probably never will, but that he knows that they love him, and for him, that’s enough. I think this is probably what a healthy family dynamic should look like -- like, even if you don’t *get* your family member, it’s important to make them feel loved and accepted. And I think Reisi’s family does that for him. And honestly, he probably needs that -- because no one at work can give him that. None of Scepter 4 think of him as a companion, a friend. Even Fushimi and Seri aren’t friends, exactly. Mikoto, in my opinion, was his only friend. So, it’s really sad, but it’s clear to me that Reisi is very lonely and even his family can only love him, they can’t understand him.

But I want to think that post-ROK, Reisi actually becomes closer to them. In my head!canon, Fushimi decided to get revenge on his shithead King for almost allowing himself to go Damocles Down. He gets this revenge by letting it slip to Taishi (who is working at Mihashihara Tower) that his little brother nearly died. 

Taishi doesn’t play any games. So, what happens is that he immediately stops tending to the damn rooftop garden, marches his ass over to wherever Reisi is, basically kidnaps him, and takes him the hell home to his parents so that he can explain what happened. And you had best better believed that Reisi’s dad is furious with his son. I mean, absolutely livid. I mean, Reisi has never been scolded in his life and it seems like his dad is making up for that right now. Reisi tries his whole sparkle thing, but it doesn’t work. 

So, as part of Reisi’s “punishment,” he has to spend more time with his family so they always know how he’s doing. They want to hear more about his work life. They institute a new policy where he’s got to come home every weekend for dinner. So, this actually makes them closer, because unlike me, Reisi doesn’t bristle or resist. He knows that they’re concerned about him and if he’s honest with himself, he did keep them out of the loop. So, he happily goes home, and he makes Fushimi come with him many times. He gets to spend more time with his brother, even takes up playing shogi with his father. He sees more of Kai and Umi too, and that’s all to the good. He tries to garden, but as always, he’s not that great at it. So, he and his mother take up ikebana. Hers are way better than his. With his sister-in-law, he helps cook. So, in this way, he’s able to integrate himself more fully in his family, and while it’s true that no one understands him, he doesn’t feel as lonely as he did before.

-Sherrinford's friends insist that he was placed into the wrong House, but his primary traits are his intelligence and creativity. He takes pride in this. After all, he is the great Sherlock Holmes' son. He is sure if he were sorted into any other House, Holmes would disown him.

-He was named Sherrinford by Mycroft, because Sherlock couldn't bother to come up with a name. So, Sherry is named after his uncle. He hates the name Sherrinford and insists that others call him Sherry.

-He has a very strong relationship with his father, of whom inspires him greatly. Sherrinford gets a lot of his mannerisms from Sherlock.

-Sherrinford is constantly in pursuit of knowledge. He has a penchant for Muggle books. He loves classic literature, constantly carrying around his copy of The Phantom of the Opera.

-His confidence is lacking. He hides behind a facade.

-Sherrinford also enjoys Muggle Theater, hoping to perform professionally someday.

-Sherrinford is a very eccentric character and he is often offputting.

Of all of Rin's partners (nagisa, rei, mako, etc) are there any things you think he would get annoyed with about any of them after a while!

Hmm, that’s an interesting question! All relationships take work and I do think they all have certain personality traits that would be a little difficult, but then again those traits don’t exist in isolation and would be balanced by other things. And, I mean, I think the person Rin clashes with the most is Haru - since they’re configured as Blue Oni and Red Oni and as a deliberate function of the narrative - but they’re still really good friends, so the annoyance would be vastly outweighed by everything else. 

So, what would cause trouble in a relationship? Let’s see….

With Makoto, I feel it would be the way they each communicate discontent - or rather the fact that Makoto doesn’t? Makoto tends to only say something if he feels someone else is being troubled - and even then in the most uncontentious way possible in order to find a compromise - and not say anything if he feels like he’s the only one who would be troubled. Whereas Rin tends to be very straightforward about voicing his opinions - if he has a problem with you, he shows it. So I feel like, if those traits were taken by themselves, Rin would find that very frustrating, but I also kind of feel like being around Rin a lot would make Makoto more frank, at least with him. And Rin is different around Makoto than he is with others, like what would be his anger response with anyone else gets muted - probably because being angry at Makoto would be like kicking a puppy, let’s face it - so I kind of feel like it would balance out after a while instead, but could be an issue at the start. If that makes sense?

With Sousuke, I think it’s an issues of opposing outlooks we’re kind of given in canon. Rin tends to have a pretty romantic way of looking at things - they’re not rose-tinted glasses, because he’s not that naive - but he’s an idealist and given to thinking about the way he feels things should be. Sousuke, on the other hand, is a realist - about the way things are. It doesn’t stop them understanding each other, but I think they can sometimes find it difficult to reconcile that within themselves. They’re not that bothered with disagreeing with each other, though, and they have a lot more similarities than differences. 

Rei is a creature of logic and Rin gets that - it’s why he was able to help Rei swim when no one else could - but Rei also has a tendency to over-think things and complicate things for himself that way. And it’s bit of a difference in modus operandi that might make it difficult to keep up with each other. I have a head!canon about the way they would fight here and I think they’d be able to rile each other up properly if they wanted. 

As for Nagisa - that’s hard to say, because he got much less of a character arc than the others so I feel like he’s a harder read. Nagisa is a really intuitive person with a lot of emotional intelligence and a sensitivity that can make even Makoto open up about what’s troubling him. He’s also really sensible, but most of the time he chooses not to be - because it’s more fun that way. And I think that flippancy of his can be sometimes be as baffling as it is refreshing if you’re caught up in something the way Rin can be.

Yikes, that got long! And I kind of feel like I’ve answered a different question than the one you asked.

Out of curiosity what's your headcanon for like, things rin finds attractive. is he a leg man? is he an ass man?

Butts. 

Lol, actually, weirdly enough, I haven’t given this as much thought because it kind of depends on the pairing - though I do think of him as a lower-body man. Like ass and legs more than upper body. They’re all swimmers with pretty defined upper bodies (though smaller on Nagisa’s part), Makoto, Sousuke and Rei all have great legs, Makoto and Sousuke have the booty and the chest so .... :S

And for me personally, I like each pairing for the different parts of Rin each character brings out - the chemistry and dynamic is different every time and I love that.

I have such an idiot brain - I read this and I know you said MMORPG but I immediately thought of Miitomo. XD I am now imagining little Mii-verse Sousuke and Rin toodling around in Mii-town and I’m so sorry. orz 

But seriously, I love the idea of them playing an online game and being a badass team purely because they’re both stupidly competitive. And their little chat box would be the most random mixture of real life talk and game talk, just switching between topics in a way that no one else would ever be able to follow. 

Now I’m wondering what their character job classes would be. Oooh.

Makoto really likes reading fictions and poetry and Rin likes more realistic types of books (especially Self-Help types) and they send books to each other overseas. They also write little notes about what their favourite parts were in the margins so when they re-read them they get little surprises.

Oooh, I actually have a similar head!canon - I think it’s buried in my tag somewhere, but I love the idea of them having their own little private book club. I think they’d be into different genres even with fiction, but I love the idea of them leaving notes for each other in the margins. 

Rin is normally very neat and tidy with his books, but all the ones he shares with Makoto are dog-eared and scribbled on, the corners folded down at their favourite parts and passages highlighted at quotes they particularly wanted to share with each other - “this made me think of you”. He likes pulp novels, hard-boiled fiction and noir, cheesy romance mixed with the suspense of a thriller, a mystery he unravels alongside the detective protagonist - he gets a thrill from trying to figure it out before the characters and diagrams his suspicions in the margins enthusiastically. 

Makoto laughs when he reads them - added commentary like Terry Pratchett footnotes - and imagines Rin’s face following the characters avidly through each page. Rin sends him pictures of motivational quotes and it is one way Makoto has learned to read to read him, his moods - being able to tell by the sentence whether Rin was feeling philosophical or in need of a boost, or particularly silly or flirtatious. And even though it takes weeks for the books to reach each other, a consequence of the time and space separating them (and of using snail mail and hard copies in the age of the internet), it feels like they can travel back in time and be there reading the same words at the same time.
