☆"y’know i love you, makoto!!”☆
。゚・;“ah, i love you too..♡”・゚。
rinmako is such a soft spot pairing for me and im so super happy to finally collab with @yourroyalkindness♥ (even tho we’re both dead on my living room furniture from drawing for like 12 straight hours,, rip...orz))
i found the ring when i was moving my stuff out of your apartment and now everything makes sense -- MakoRin
Post break-up aus
Rin tried to keep from sniffling as he put the last of his things in a box. He couldn’t believe it was over. Three years with Makoto, and it was just done, like it had never happened.
Except that it had happened, and Rin had changed because of it. Makoto had changed, too, more in the last couple of months than he had in all their time together. He had grown stiff and awkward around Rin where before they had always been comfortable. Sousuke said Makoto was happier than ever when he showed up for work, but Rin never saw that side of him. Sousuke also said he was making the biggest mistake of his life, but Rin disagreed. Makoto deserved to be happy, and if there was someone out there that was making him smile when Rin wasn’t around, then he deserved to be with them instead.
Makoto had barely fought Rin on the breakup. It was just like him, letting things go and wishing Rin well even as Rin screamed horrible, awful things at him. When Rin had finally broken down crying, Makoto had left, giving Rin the space he needed to assure himself that this was the right thing.
He shook his head, moving to his night stand to pick up the last of his things, a framed photo of the two of them in Australia. His hand knocked into it and it fell behind the headboard of the bed.
“Great,” he muttered to himself, getting down on all fours to peer under the bed. He saw the photo up against the wall, but he also saw something he did not recognize. Rin reached for it with a shaking hand, fresh tears leaking down his cheeks. Just then the door opened and Makoto called out a tired and timid greeting. Rin knew he knew he was here, and he knew that he was expecting another screaming match. What he got instead was Rin throwing himself at him, Rin wrapping his arms around his waist, Rin sobbing into his shoulder.
“I’m sorry,” he wailed. “I didn’t realize- why didn’t you say something?”
“Rin, what’s going on?” Makoto sounded confused and a little afraid, but he put his hands on Rin’s waist anyway.
“I found the ring,” Rin whispered. He was clutching the little black box for dear life, inside which lay a little silver ring engraved with their names. “Why have you been so distant lately if you were going to- to-”
“I didn’t know how to be around you without spoiling the surprise,” Makoto said, his voice even but still confused. “Rin, I thought you were leaving. I thought you hated me.”
Rin shook his head wildly. “I could never hate you,” he wailed. “I thought you had found someone else, and that was why you were so happy.”
“Rin, that makes no sense,” Makoto said, but he finally clued into the fact that Rin wasn’t leaving him, that Rin was staying. He clutched at Rin and buried his nose in the crook of Rin’s shoulder.
“I’m sorry,” Rin whispered. “Please, take me back. I’m so sorry.”
“God, Rin, I love you,” Makoto said. “I love you so much. Please never say you’re leaving me again.”
“I won’t,” Rin promised. “I’m never letting you go.”
“Good,” Makoto said, pulling back so that Rin could see his smiling, tear-streaked face. “Because I want you to marry me, Rin. I want to spend the rest of my life with you.”
“Please,” Rin whispered. “I want that too.”
Makoto merely smiled and took the box from Rin, slipping the ring onto his finger. Rin leaned his head on Makoto’s chest, to hear the beating of his heart. Makoto twined their fingers together, and Rin wondered then why he had ever thought that he could belong anywhere other than right there. Makoto, he knew, he just knew, was thinking the same.
