Apartment complexes and rental houses rarely ban Pokémon pets altogether, but certain types or species might be banned for various reasons. For example, many landlords don't like the presence of Fire-type Pokémon on their lots.

A lot can be told from a Fire-type's external flames. When in battle, external flames blaze at their strongest. When a Fire-type is relaxed or at rest, it is the perfect time to gauge their health. When exhausted, the flames are weaker. That's normal after a battle. If the flames remain weak for a prolonged period, it's a cause for concern. If a Fire-types external flames are extinguished, it usually means it's asleep.
