2017 in comics... to be honest not my favorite year in the funny book genre. However, there was some cool stuff that came out and here it is. Saga #42. This is probably the best issue in one of the best comic series of the last decade. #42 wrapped the ark like a cinderblock to the chest. The very end of the issue dose something so subtle yet so incredible fitting to the story, and to the comic formate itself, that it stands as one of my favorite moments in comics period, let alone 2017. Andrew Maclean. It is always great to discover a new comic creator who is right up your alley. I discovered Macleans Head Lopper series last year and have been loving the hell out of the second arc this year. I can’t wait to see what he puts out next year. Paper Girls in Y2K. All us old millennials have a soft spot for the dawn of the new millennium. That day in our teenage years when the computers where going to kill us all. That was the better part of two decades ago and now we’re all old and shit. It’s pretty awesome having a comic writer like K. Vaughan telling tales of that time. The time of Blockbuster and Circuit City. And he added giant fighting robots. You kick ass Brian K. Vaughan. James Stokoe making Alien comics. Stokoe is one of my favorite comic artist and the dude always lands gigs drawing my favorite things. His Godzilla half century war was awesome. So was his Aliens comic. Another good year in Heavy Metal Magazine. Last year Grant Morrison became editor and chief of heavy metal. I have been a long time reader but the magazine went stale and inspired so I have it up. Then Morrison’s crazy ass took the rain and know heavy metal is awesome again. ...and that’s about it... let hope 2018 kicks ass in the comic world.
