not very knowledgeable on the game, but oh boy do I love you spilling hot tea. also, how unsurprising that fandoms at large see a character GETTING SHIT DONE and go “bwaaaah he’s a villain” XD
to be completely fair, rufus does function as a villain from the perspective of protagonist-centered morality
and he is horribly morally gray
and there is a reason why i refer to his post-OG characterization as a redemption arc (which implies he must have been a true villain at one point)
but this is only when we’re talking about the functional role he serves within the narrative. when we look at his character divorced from that protagonist-centered viewpoint, he most certainly behaves in a way that places him among the most selfless and heroic in the cast, and that was the point i was trying to make with that post.
