This object in Glencairn’s Egyptian gallery shows a woman lying on a low bed. Her head is supported by a headrest, an object used in daily life that is commonly found in tombs. Headrests were believed to magically protect the sleeper at night, and also eternally after death. Book of the Dead spell 166, a spell for a headrest, says, “Your head cannot be taken from you hereafter; your head can never be taken from you.” Read more about headrests in Glencairn’s Egyptian collection here: https://bit.ly/2lVjpqm
