After, I thought I'd take a little break from one type of work to a project I've been working, trying to get LGBT+ awareness incorporated into certain degrees. I have a motion for psychological trainings like mine and counselling courses. I plan on asking at my Uni to include teacher trainings but left it out of my motion for time reasons and because I wanted to stick to my expertise. I have the opportunity to submit the motion to a second conference and thought I might just amend it to include some info on schools and HOLY SHIT - there was so much information out there my head felt like momentarily exploding i.e. it was overwhelming.

To summarise;

• Ofsted ask about homophobic and transphobic bullying in their inspections now AND the government (department of equalities and education) have published guidelines on the need to deal with LGBT phobic bullying. • Section 28 was only repealed 11 years ago! And some teachers still believe they can get fired for saying gay. • Homophobic bullying in schools is all over the news and LGBT trainers are going into schools and yet… • If you search PGCE LGBT training it’s NOT mandatory and worse you get stories about trainee teachers being scared to come out. 

See why I’m overwhelmed and also in two minds about whether submitting to a tiny liberation conference may not be the best focus when I have so much on and the freakin government is literally telling institutions and schools to buck their fucking ideas up.
