Ophiuchus is a constellation that straddles the celestial equator, meaning it is located near the center of the Milky Way and is visible at latitudes between +80° and -80°. It is not one of the traditionally recognized 12 constellations of the zodiac, but rather a 13th constellation that the sun passes through during its annual journey. The sun passes through Ophiuchus from around November 29th to December 17th. Ophiuchus is often depicted as a man holding a snake, and the constellation is associated with the Greek god Asclepius, a physician and god of healing.
