I'm hard of hearing w/ holes in my ear drums and I've been working with my ENT to figure out which hearing device would work best for me and he keeps saying that a bone conduction implant would work best to bypass the eardrum (i have drainage so an actual hearing aid may not be the best) and i think he may be right, but also idk i don't like the idea of having something implanted under my skin that i can't remove

I have hearing loss. I recently realized that, if the audiologist I'm gonna see in a week thinks I need them, I could be using hearing aids soon. At first, I was nervous about having such a visible signifier of disability on me all the time, but @duskycervitaur reassured me. The bigots who refused to believe I was disabled will have to think twice now before calling me a faker.

Also, maybe other people with hearing loss and deaf folk will notice, and we can give each other some solidarity! And I can give some solidarity to someone else I know who uses hearing aids!

1) It's an electronic device that was not made to enter peoples mouths, I 100% advise against eating it or even putting it in your mouth.

2) That would damage my device which is expensive. (Fun fact: Hearing aids are rarely covered by insurance. Cochlear implants are more likely to be insured but even then it still costs quite a lot of money. )

3) The device needs to be attached to either my head or my ears (depending on the device) in order for sound to get through so probably not.
