While masks are important, they're a pain in the azz for those of us who wear glasses. They're an extra pain in the azz for me personally, because I "hear" by reading lips and that ain't happening. It is doubly hard now, because everybody is wearing masks, which means I can't read lips at all. I've taken to keeping a notebook and pen handy so they can jot down what they're saying. Melancholy - I was an avid reader at a young age (lots of "classics") and this word always stumped me because I could never make it sound like anything I had ever heard or seen spoken (reading lips). In my head I would pronounce it as ma-lock-nee or mel-anch-o-lee for probably decades before I ever heard it spoken out loud and made the connection. Apparently women were always meh-lock-nlee in the old days.🙅🏽♀️ Correct phonetically: Melon-Kaa-Lee. Plus, I'm hearing impaired and I always had difficulty with hearing syllables or accents.
