I've been questioning if I'm otherhearted and I was wondering if you could give me some advice? I made up a species when I was around six and involved it in a lengthy storyline. Said species has evolved to resonate with me ever since. I've used it to imaginatively portray my deeper emotions to this day and in retrospect that's taught me a lot about myself. In general they also just make me really happy?
Ack, sorry this posted somehow without my response? Let’s try this again.
Considering there are folks who identify as their OCs, I don’t see why this couldn’t work for identifying with an OC/species, so I’d certainly say it’s possible. But is it otherheartedness in your case specifically?
I obviously can’t speak for you and I don’t know your situation beyond what you’ve given me in this ask, but it seems like this species has consistently impacted your life since you created it. You say this species makes you happy and you resonate with it strongly.
Basically it boils down to: does this species make you feel “at home”? Is this a species you would want to just be around if you could? Do you prefer seeing or (if it were possible) interacting with this species over other species? Does the tug you feel toward this species come naturally, or do you have to work to cultivate this bond?
@aestherians has a post from awhile back that sums it up nicely:
“I’m a readhead” = other-/fictionkin“I dyed my hair red” = copinglinkers“I prefer red hair, but I’m not a redhead myself” = otherhearted
If this doesn’t seem to fit, this species could hold another role in your life without fitting the heart-type label.
I can’t decide for you, but hopefully this helps you along your path to discovery, and feel free to hit me up with more questions!
