Shoutout to adults in the kin community, whether you also identified as kin from a younger age or not. So often this identity is seen as a phase or something only younger people identify as, but there are those of us out here in our 20s, 30s, 40s, and older living our lives and existing out in the world.

To those of us who grew into it, to those of us that grew with it, I see you and love you.

Fictionkin Community!!!

As I, like many others, have been struggling with canonsickness and yearning for canonmates, I thought it would be a good time to introduce a concept that brings me much comfort and joy in the interim!

I call it Adopting A Sourcemate! This is a person who is dear to you and shares your source, but not your exact canon. For example, this person may not be the Dave Strider from your canon, but they are for all intents and purposes Your Dave Strider!

I’m sure I’m far from the first person to exercise this concept, but if it helps others, I want it to be out there!

Also, I know it can be easy to feel discouraged in the current kin climate, especially if your source isn’t widespread, or you’ve had many interactions with potential source/canonmates that have fizzled out, but try not to give up hope! There’s always a chance to find a canonmate, or to forge a bond with someone you can adopt into your world :) Sometimes that’s even better!

Sending some love today to fictionkin, particularly from superhero, sci-fi, or fantasy settings, who experienced kinds of trauma that have nothing in this universe to compare it to:

Injuries (both major and minor) that came from magic

Death, perhaps even more than once if revival magic existed in your source

Illnesses that don't exist in this world

Mind control/possession (might make a whole other post about this one)

Combat/getting in life threatening fights that involved magic or fictional weapons

Various spells, curses, or potions

Being stranded away from home in another planet/dimension/timeline

Apocalypses

Your trauma is real, even if it didn't happen right here, and you're not 'crazy' for feeling upset by it, even if there's no equivalent in this place. I know your non-kin friends might not always get it, and it's not typically something you can seek a therapist about, but your pain isn't 'stupid' no matter what anyone else thinks about it.
