The beast will run rampant tomorrow... For now, Tired Beast Thursday
To anyone who thinks they might be losing a therio/kintype because its not fun anymore, think about your average human person. They aren't overjoyed to be human. That isn't something they even think about. You might have just gotten over the initial novelty of the experience, but that doesn't mean the experience isn't still with you. Try connecting more to the things you CAN feel, good or bad.
This is directed towards younger therians/otherkin mostly, but could be for everyone

Thought this was a neat and feels very alterhuman-adjacent (especially for tech-related identities)!

Sometimes I remember that there actually were extinct crocodilians with the exact back/shoulder spines that I felt phantoms of back in college, that I was drawing on my sonas when I was 11.
It's surreal every time I see it. This particular pseudosuchian has a very different snout/facial profile from me, but the build and stance is basically identical.
I was in my 30s when I learned these creatures even existed. There was no way for me to imprint on the idea of a crocodilian that looked like this, except by pure coincidence.
Nor did I know that a reptile could be this colour— a shade rarely found in nature, maybe occasionally on flowers or birds.
(Every child's dinosaur book in the 80s depicted them as brown or green. I did know that partially blue reptiles existed, but their colours were intense, almost neon, not dusty and soft like a fading flower.)
Or that prehistoric reptiles could have lived in boreal areas. I thought all that was my fantasy. Something I made up; and so I called myself dragon and drake, having no better words for the collection of traits I felt were mine.
I still haven't found an Earthen animal with all of these features (although it's possible we'll never know the scale colours of many ancient animals). But it's extremely plausible that it could exist, and that's exciting. I hope I'm around to see it discovered.
All this is to say that if you haven't found your 'type yet, don't give up hope, and read a lot in the general area of your 'type. You never know when you might discover the exact animal that you are.
I'll see you later alligator

You can keep changing.
You can be unsure of your theriotype.
You can not know your theriotype.
You can.
It really is funny how frequently I see people go "I miss the old alterhuman community, where people would have real discussions and make meaningful content. There were so many personal websites! Sometimes I can even hear their voice..."
We are literally right here. We do these things on tumblr daily. Half the people I follow on here have personal websites they update regularly. I'm in like 6 well-attended discord servers where all people do is share their experiences and have meaningful discussions. We didn't go anywhere, you've just apparently fallen victim to the convenience of The Algorithm and forgotten that old web spaces required you to seek them out on purpose and didn't endlessly churn out new content if you didn't contribute.
Sure the current trends on social media and prevailing internet social culture suck (and not just for alterhumans), but frankly on tumblr it's really easy to curate a feed of actually interesting alterhuman posts, and most of the old forum culture has simply moved to discord. The kind of community you supposedly miss so much still exists, it's just not what shows up first when you google "alterhuman". You just need to actually talk to people and find out where they hang out. Better yet, bring those kinds of discussions into public spaces so people can find them!
