I see a lot of crosswalks as I go around town. But when I see one meant for guide dogs, I stop and look carefully - and then I look carefully again after taking a photo.
(this has been edited to remove some personal information) i ran into an issue today that i suspect caught up other autistic folk who were acting in good conscience but did not know how fraught clipart sites can be with infringing content... i'm an artist. i used to love drawing, but between arthritis, fibro, and EDS, i haven't been able to draw in about 18 years. (at least not "real" drawing. i love doing digital works now. and yes, i know that's really just as real... but... it's not the same, ykwim?) the last sketch i finished, back in 1999, was one of my cat seelie, looking out the window. he was a long legged long tailed slinky grey cat and with the kink in his tail, it almost made a heart on its own. i gave him a full heart tail and called it "heartcat". that year or the next i scanned and digitised it, and it's been on catsnco.com ever since in various forms. seelie died unexpectedly of congestive heart failure (ironic, huh?) 29 jan 2013, and heartcat is even more special to me now. earlier i was told via email that i was using someone else's "autisticat" design on catsnco.com with a link to etsy. i msged the person on etsy, and i posted about it flocked on facebook.
it seems that about 2015 someone stole my c. 1999 heartcat design, made a vector of it, and uploaded it to free clipart sites claiming it was creative commons/public domain.
no, it is NOT. heartcat is copyrighted to me with all rights reserved. i've just spent a couple hours filling out dmca notices for the clipart sites and messaging people on etsy who also thought it was really creative commons. (and getting lovely prompt responses from both) other autistic folks (and non-autistic too!) please a) respect my copyright, and b) PLEASE be kind and don't use a stolen copy of my drawing of my sweet seelie cat of blessed memory. i'm happy for everybody to make their own autisticats, but please -- leave my seelie heartcat out of it. i’m still grieving. (image is of the 2015 image from the named clipart sites overlaid with the version i was pointed to as the “original” that i was infringing on)
