As per my previous reblog, I have some THOUGHTS about the braids that Peter Jackson and co. used for the movies. Specifically, how they braided the elves hair.
See, most of the elves use fishtail braids. This makes sense aesthetically, as fishtails look fancy while still maintaining thin lines (unlike other fancy braid patterns, which can become fairly bulky). Fishtail braids also hold up very well, which makes sense considering the amount of traveling and fighting these elves were doing.
“But Hearth,” asked no one, because no one asked for this rant, “why wouldn’t everyone (except maybe dwarves, who want nothing to do with anything ‘elfy’) wear fishtails then? Well, that’s because fishtails can take for-freaking-ever to braid! Seriously! I once spent almost 45 minutes putting in a few smaller braids (side note, thinner fishtails tend to take infinitely longer than thicker braids). No one else is wearing fishtail braids because no one else has centuries to spend on braiding their hair!
Anyways, using fishtail braids for the elves was a good call. Looks good, makes sense, I’m going to bed now.
