she never forgave her mother for sending her to freedom falls. they stayed in contact on and off for years because of guilt before she finally cut her off right before marrying helen. for a very long time she kept up an act of telling people that they were fine because she wanted to believe it was true. it made her feel better to think that maybe one day her mom would love and accept every part of her, but she never did.

she's very distrustful so a lot of the time she assumes that anything anybody has said to her is a lie. when stuck in her own chosen isolation pre hive, she didn't mind the occasional lie that someone was too busy to hang out with her. carol had convinced herself that was a positive, more time to herself to write. her low self esteem was her own self sabotage in her social life.

         allie can hear a harmony of beautiful music inside, but she’s lost to the balcony. naturally, she finds the greenery over the edge of the stone, and is forever enchanted with that. it’s almost as if allie forgets she’s at a party at all, pushing herself to sit up on the balcony’s edge. without plucking the blossom from its stem, allie raises the flower to her nose and lips, feeling the soft petals against her skin. 

         just above where the pink petals stop, a man with dark hair comes out onto the balcony, and allie thinks she can feel his presence before he sweeps into her vision. she curiously glances up at him from where she’s almost hidden by the florals spilling into the balcony, a tilt of her head as she acknowledges him.  “ hi, ”  allie breathes out, finding her feet again on the stone floor of the balcony.
