(Okay I’m going to preface this by saying… I don’t actually get this at all. I’ve read this thing twice and it’s all flying over my head. But!)
There is a book purchasable from the Bookstore called “Genesis of Spirit” which lists through a bunch of worldbuilding including, but not limited to:
The formation of our world - nicknamed Ourworld (I assume this was some sort of pun in Mandrin that had to be translated)
What Astralis might actually be (A "Spirit Body" creature formed and maintained through energy)
"The Chaos Cosmos is the highest known existance" (??? what does that even mean. somebody help.)
Turns out, there are creatures called "Spirit Bodies" "can channel their own energy and manifest it through changes in the material world", but is limited by "the range of [its] influence". They also can't die, but can fall into a coma if deprived of energy.
In other words: Astralis is some sort of local deity, is immortal, and its star form we meet in the introduction is a physical manifestation conjured via its energy!
Atara’s full first name is actually Ataraxia, and he really enjoys photography! This can be inferred from his dialogue and his book “Notes on Photography”, where he believes photography is a “vital way to capture life’s moments” (Ataraxia, Star 117).
He also was gifted his first camera by his friend, who could potentially be associated with candy jars! If i had to guess, I’d say it could be either Bailey Jr. or Doris.
Apparently there’s a (possibly well known) shipwreck known as the “Sea God’s Labyrinth”, and Bill had been to it. And one of the older Captain brothers wants to go there someday.
“Older Captain Brothers?” you say? Yep. They’re all quadruplets. The one wearing grey is, presumably, Captian the Third, and I have no idea where the other two are. Please tell me where they are if you know.
thank you for existing. as someone who has decided to write fanfics for the book stall, yours and everyone else’s efforts are lifesavers—i almost wrote vanya catching fish! as an aside: ive been wondering if/headcanoning vanya is a polar bear. im a newer player who has only ever seen him in his winter outfit/ushanka, which i thought was his only fit, and i was basing the idea off of the motifs… so when i saw a pic with his visor and saw he really does have bear ears, my mind was kind of blown!
OMG THANK YOU????? No yeah, the game loves to poke fun at Vanya's inability to fish all the time lol. Back to the rest of your ask:
I would think Vanya has lots of connections to that of a polar bear, even besides the ears. For instance, he prefers the cold of the winter season (his title on his card can read "Winter Lover" sometimes), even claiming that "18°C [is] too hot to sleep" (That's 64°F for you Americans). I don't know about you, but I'd rather sleep in 30°C than in anything colder than 18°C, so uh yeah. My guy likes the cold.
But even more than that... during the winter event, Vanya can talk about how animals stay warm during the cold back in his homeland. Importantly, he states the following: "Some grow thicker, waterproof fur, and others dig homes underground. Oh, and packing on some extra fat ahead of time works wonders too" - All of which polar bears use to stay warm in the artic.
Funnily enough, when getting to the topic of penguins, "What about penguins? Uh, penguins... we're not really that close." which would make sense because polar bears eat penguins. Of course they wouldn't be close!
The bear nya snow sculpture description is killing me 😭 Vanya flavour text is normal and then the other half is just ‘this guys not really good at fishing’

Realm
The term “Realm” refers to all existence within a certain scope of the universe – organic or inorganic, living or non-living. Because there is a beginning and change, there is time; because there are coordinates, there is space. When describing an existence that lies beyond known definitions of time or coordinate ranges, it is considered not part of “this Realm.” Besides all known “natives,” there also exist beings from the “outer Realm”. It is unknown how higher-dimensional “Realms” might name our own, the phrases “within our world” below will be referred to simply as “Ourworld” or “this realm.” The oceans, the land, the sky, inside and outside the Spirit Realm, and all geographies and cultures mentioned in the eras of Solar, Eclipse, and Star – all belong to Ourworld. The Chaos Cosmos is the highest known existence, encompassing Ourworld. The Galaxy, Beyond the Galaxy, and the Origin also reside within the Chaos Cosmos, yet their coordinates remain undefined. Naturally, they do not belong to Ourworld – they are existances of a higher order. Between Realms stand firm barriers. To open and sustain a passage connecting two Realms requires immensely powerful Psionic Power – a feat beyond the reach of ordinary beings in Ourworld.
Chaos, Galaxy, Origin, and “Spirit”
A first glance into Chaos – the world originated from it. In the beginning, heaven and earth were joined, that is, in a chaotic state, until a “deity” parted them. Chaos is the nebulous state before the cosmos took form, when qi, form, and substance were fused and undivided. Yet within the world-concept, Chaos exists from the very beginning. Ourworld took shape within the Chaos Cosmos as energies gathered. And before Ourworld formed, a vague “Galaxy” already existed within Chaos. Simply put, the Galaxy can also be understood as a Realm – an elder Realm, the central Realm of the Chaos Cosmos. The energy scattered throughout the Chaos Cosmos originally emanated from the Galaxy, and the source of the Galaxy’s energy lies in the “Origin” located on Beyond the Galaxy – the place where all things began. The Galaxy, Beyond the Galaxy, and the Origin do not exist within concepts known to people and cannot be found. The power of the Origin is beyond comprehension. Energy can give rise to spirit bodies. These spirits bodies maintain a connection to their source – the Galaxy – though it is not a strong one, somewhat like the bond between ancestors and their distant descendants. When a spirit body returns to the Galaxy, it becomes a “Distant Star” capable of drawing upon the energy of the Origin. After Ourworld formed, the energy within it – through its own action or interaction – generated spirit bodies akin to starlight, as well as matter. Over time, the spirit bodies in Ourworld developed consciousness and, driven by an instinct for existence and growth, became deeply intertwined with matter. Thus, the sky and earth took shape.
Spirit and Psionic Power
Spirit, or “Spirit Body” refers to a conscious, autonomous “being” formed through the convergence of energy. Spirit bodies sustain their existence through their source energy. As long as this energy remains undispersed, they do not fade away. When the energy diminishes or is excessively depleted, a spirit body falls into slumber. A slumbering spirit requires replenishment; without sufficient energy, it cannot awaken. Simply put, it’s akin to a vegetative state. Spirit bodies can channel their own energy and manifest it through changes in the material world. Thus, powerful spirit bodies can achieve feats beyond the reach of ordinary beings – including those of high intelligence. Whether matter exists does not directly determine a spirit body’s life or death. However, within the same Realm, the state of matter usually affects the potency of a spirit body’s energy – perhaps because the genesis of matter and a spirit’s origin are inseparably linked. Due to their mutual dependence with matter, spirit bodies, as “beings”, gradually developed “personalities.” Even if they initially lacked “emotions,” prolonged influence from matter (and the beings that rely on matter to live) led spiritbodies to manifest distinct traits. Psionic Power refers to the energy of a spirit body, often called “Spirit Body’s Power.” It is energy that a spirit body emits, whether actively or passively, and to some extent, can be utilised by other intelligent beings. However, the range of a spirit body’s influence is limited – even as one as powerful as the Origin. The study and application of Psionic Power to solve practical problems, leading to solve practical problems leading to the development of functional technologies powered by it, is known as “Psionic Power tech.” Additionally, the often-mentioned “Astralis” in legends seems to blend the concepts of “Distant Star” and “Spirit” – a popular but imprecise term. More likely, “Astralis” is merely one type of spirit bodies in Ourworld, or one of the Guardian Spirits of the entire Realm.
Life
Life is sustained by energy. The essence of life lies in metabolism. Simply put: heredity and variation. Anything that exhibits even one of these traits is regarded as life. Some beings exist whole “immortality” is sustained by energy surplus or cyclical regeneration. Because they are “immortal”, they have no need for “heredity.” Yet since energy is in constant flow, even these “immortal” beings undergo “variation.” There also exist beings that “die” when their energy is depleted. As for whether “Spirits” and “Distant Stars” count as living beings, theoretically, by definition, they do. For an independent “Spirit,” its energy is in a constant state of active change. The same applies to Distant Stars. However, the “Origin” within the Galaxy does not count, as its energy appears unchanging – any altercation is merely passive, such as being “taken away” or “portioned out”. Yet even this view remains debated within the Psionic Academy.
Has there ever been any additional information on Moabit? I see them mentioned often, but I still don’t know who this is. Considering that their entire thing is mystery, that might be the point, but it’s strange that we never get any clarification on whether Moabit is another guardian spirit or something else.
I’ll do some additional digging (pun here) a little later as a follow-up, but here’s what i can remember from the top of my head:
Moabit is the group name for the collection of moles who tend to spy and look after the island, including the fluorite ore mole and the mole that appears on the friendship phone interface.
What they actually DO is the mysterious part, but they’re trusted by the Guild and Ataraxia to handle things when anything gets too hectic (Atara’s Diary), which is thanks to the Second Mayor establishing a friendship between the two (Annie’s Essays).
It is theorized by some that the Second Mayor decided to abandon society and live with the moles or something, but there’s not really any evidence backing that theory up.
There’s (apparently) a loading screen text that states that Mrs Joan and Bailey Jr crashed onto the island due to a plane crash, which is actually corroborated by the people who saved them - B&W Fishing.
One of the Captain quadruplets was returning back from a voyage when he witnessed the “plane swaying as it landed on the beach”. Presumably thanks to Whaletune or Astralis, though “the plane was completely wrecked, […] both pilot and passenger were unharmed”.
Things to point out here: Singular passenger?Could be a mistranslation, but this implies either Bailey Jr or Mrs Joan was the pilot, and can fly a plane! Dunno which of the two it is though. Secondly, Bailey Jr was already disabled BEFORE the plane crash, since she came out unharmed. Just interesting to mention.
(either all that or the island is a plane crashing hotspot like what. the bermuda triangle??)
