Hi. I have the same problem as one-geck-to-rule-them-all and was wondering if there was anything at all I could do. I've do reason salt baths, tetracycline (recommended by another fishblr), the general parasite cure, and pretty much anything else I could think of. I was wondering if there was anything I'm missing? He seems bloated and it's only been getting worse.

Sorry, I can't find any posts I tagged with that username. I assume your betta is showing signs of dropsy? First I'd check your husbandry and make sure everything is in order (pH 6.0-7.5, ammonia 0, nitrites 0, nitrates less than 20, temp 78-80F) and if that checks out he may just be too far gone, unfortunately. You can try another antibiotic, something with metronidazole in it if you can.

I can't find your ask blog and my question is extremely urgent I hope you can help me please. My betta fish Sherbert is ripping his fins in excess. I have tested the PH levels, the water temperature, he is fed normally, his gravel is cleaned when needed, his tank is heated and filtered, he gets his dried bloodworm treats, and has many places to hide. His back fun is ripped completely in half this has been going on for a whole now. Please can you help

First, relax! Fin biting is fairly common in bettas, and not lethal. Second, he may never stop! Sometimes, and we don't always know why, they just keep doing it.

But you can try a few things!

First see if he's being stimulated TOO much by his environment. Move his tank to a quiet place with little foot traffic.

Possibly cover the sides of his tank so he can't see everything outside of his tank.

Remove some decor, but leave enough in for him to have 1 or two hiding places.

If that fails, try stimulating him more!

Show him a mirror for 10 minutes each day.

Put a TON of decor in the tank! Put just a huge amount of fake/live plants in there for him to hide in.

But most importantly, don't stress out too much! I've had many bettas over the years, and many of my halfmoons bit their tails to relieve the weight they had to drag around. It actually benefited them!
