A great day for democracy.
Democrats will maintain their narrow Pennsylvania House majority after winning a special election in the Philadelphia suburbs. Tuesday’s win will also help them control how the chamber will handle abortion, gun rights and election law legislation. Heather Boyd defeated Republican Katie Ford in a special election to fill a vacancy created by the resignation of Democratic Rep. Mike Zabel. Zabel quit the Legislature in March, shortly after a lobbyist accused him of sexually harassing her. Boyd’s win gives Democrats 102 representatives, the minimum needed to control the agenda in the 203-seat House.

Wicked with Him by Heather Boyd
Scandalous Brides #1
A whispered scandalous request by Lady Amity Sweet is a BIG ask that is granted by Roman Crawford. Little did the two realize that a few minutes in a closet at a ball would impact both of their lives so very much.
What I liked:
* Amity: bright, lively, suppressed by her family, downtrodden and perhaps abuse by her brother, wants to avoid being ‘sold’ to her brother’s creepy friend as a brood mare, takes matters into her own hands
* Roman: thwarted in love by Amity’s brother, bent on revenge, an adept and skillful lover, younger son, wealthy, rather taken with Amity, more than his rakish reputation indicates
* Fairbridge: heir to the Ravenswood Duchy, wily, astute, manipulator, has best interests of those he cares for in hand, there for Amity when she needed him – can’t wait for his story next
* Thinking that maybe some of Amity’s cousins might show up in future books
* That Amity’s conniving brother and his not so nice wife were exposed and thwarted and hopefully sent packing
* The chemistry between Amity and Roman and their journey to happiness
What I didn’t like:
* Who and what I was meant not to like – especially George, Melody, and the old Duke
Did I enjoy this book? Yes
Would I read more in this series? Definitely

Scandals rarely take place in the center of the ballroom, but on the fringes anything is possible. From the moment George Sweet stole his intended, Roman Crawford has pursued every possible manner of revenge against the nasty scrub. Though he does have his limits. Debauching Sweet’s sister, a veritable paragon of vestal goodness, is beyond the pale—yet that is exactly what the lady herself requests. Roman isn’t willing or able to refuse when Amity Sweet quite literally begs him to participate in her ruin. But instead of a shy, virtuous flower, Roman finds himself in the arms of a wickedly passionate beauty…who disappears from Town immediately after their tryst. If public humiliation is the only way Amity can escape an arranged marriage to one of her vicious brother’s cronies, then it will be on her terms. She enlists the aid of George’s greatest enemy, who she’s certain will be happy to see her brother brought low by her corruption. But Amity is no fool. She also chose Roman because of his reputation in the bedroom. She expects to find pleasure in her ruin. She does not, however, expect to find Roman Crawford nigh unforgettable. When the pair meet again, their wicked attraction is stronger still, but Amity despairs of falling for a man pining for another, while Roman knows any offer for her hand may further alienate Amity from her family. Neither are aware that their worries may be for naught. That their combined fate—and destiny—may already be sealed. Scandalous Brides series: 1. Wicked with Him 2. Desperately Seeking Seduction
REVIEW
Silver Bells by Heather Boyd
Distinguished Rogues #17
What a nice way to get away from it all today by reading a heartwarming romance with a happily ever after. Not too long and not too short…just right in every way.
What I liked:
* Ruby: married for love, lost her family, had a son, then lost her husband only to have to worry about how to keep herself and her son safe. Her choices were limited but she did the best she could with what she had.
* Hector: a scoundrel with a heart of gold. Charming, a good brother, wealthy, a lord, not in the market for a wife…until he was. I liked him.
* Pip: Ruby’s son: a typical four-year-old boy loved by his mother and able to charm Hector.
* Parker: Hector’s valet, an ex-soldier, wiser than most, a great defender, looked out for Hector and those Hector cared about
* Samuel Blackwell: I kind of would like to know more about him and wonder if he had a book of his own in this series.
* That the bad guys didn’t get away with their evil schemes
* That the story, though short, had everything required in a romance.
What I didn’t like:
* Mr. Roper: Ruby’s father-in-law was someone to get away from as soon as possible.
* Vyne: reprehensible and alone due to his choices

She didn’t trust him in her youth, so how can she depend on him now? Widowed a year, Ruby Roper must flee her Scotland home when she discovers her father-in-law plans to marry her off—and keep her only son. Running to her uncle finds her in an equally undesirable situation, surrounded by silent servants and mounting secrets. Very soon, it seems perhaps The Vynes isn’t the safe haven Ruby had hoped. After all, the last time she set foot on the estate, she’d lost something dear. This time, she could lose something a great deal more precious…unless she’s willing to put her trust in a man she’s not seen in years.
