Prompt: Could make a request? Cassidy x Reader: “Are you sure you two aren’t married?”
Cole Cassidy was, in a word, in shambles. He had no clue where his prized serape had gone to. He could have sworn he had left it on one of the couches in the game room of the Watchtower base.
He’d all but turned the place upside down and yet there was still no sign of the red cloth. Couch pillows were thrown around the room. The couches themselves were moved and flipped over from their original spots. Perhaps it had fallen behind there?
Nope.
Hana Song and Lena Oxton had walked in on Cole just minutes prior and were currently sitting in a corner of the room. Both of them just watching the gunslinger and his antics. He’d asked them if they’d seen any sign of his serape but the girls hadn’t a clue where it could be. Having reached a dead-end with them, he made them sit in a corner to keep them out of the way of his searching.
You’d been walking down the hall when a strange thing happened a few feet in front of you. A stray couch cushion had just been flung out of the game room doorway.
Curious, you’d made your way to the opening and slowly ducked your head inside. Only to come face to face with a whirlwind of mess and a frazzled looking Cassidy.
Normally you would have stayed out of it, after all you hadn’t a clue what was going on, but it was your week to clean the outpost and this? This was going too far.
“Cole Cassidy! Have you lost your damn mind!?” You yelled out, fully facing the now startled man. Hands on your hips and red in the face, you angrily stared the cowboy down.
“[Y/N]! I can explain!” he yelled, subconsciously sticking his arms in the air in surrender. As if caught red handed doing something he shouldn’t have been. Which, in a way, was sort of true.
Both Hana and Lena looked on quietly, faces full of intrigue at the current turn of events. You weren’t the type of person who would anger quickly but with one look around the room and anyone could see how justified it was. There was no way either of them were going to get in the middle of this spat.
“You’re damn right you better have an explanation! I have slaved away all week cleaning up the base after everyone here and what do I find!?”
“A--,” he tried to begin, only to be interrupted by you.
“A louse making an even bigger mess with no intention of cleaning it up!”
“[Y/N], please…”
Stepping closer to the now nervous cowboy, you began to waggle your finger in his face. Furrowed brow set in place on your angered face.
“Don’t you ‘[Y/N], please’ me, mister! Not once, not twice, but three times I have had to clean up after your shenanigans this week. And without so much as a thank you at that! And I have had it up to here,” you gestured your hand somewhere above your head, “with it! Now what do you have to say for yourself!”
There was a pause within the room. Cassidy, unsure of whether or not you were going to interrupt him again. You, still glaring at the man before you, both hands once again on your hips. And Hana and Lena in shock and awe of what just transpired between the two of you.
With no indication that you were going to say anything, Cole tried to clear his throat as he finally looked around the room. Looked at the giant disaster of a mess he’d caused in his rabid search.
‘At least he has the decency to look ashamed of his actions,’ you thought bitterly.
“I’m sorry sweetheart,” he said, rubbing the back of his neck and avoiding your gaze altogether.
Your traitorous heart gave a slight flutter at the use of the sentimental nickname. You’d had a thing for the gunslinger for a while now but no way were you going to act on it. Especially now, given the circumstances.
“I’ve been tryin’ ta find my serape. I could’ve sworn I left it in here the last time I saw it. But I ain’t seen hide nor hair of the damned thing. Then before I even realized it, this place was lookin’ a right mess.”
Heaving a sigh, you let your arms drop and gave Cole an incredulous look.
“Honey, I told you last night that I was going to wash it today. It had stains from your mock fight with Genji. I swear, I don’t know how you get extra dirty when you spar with him.”
There was another pause as you could just imagine the gears in Cole’s head going around with this new information. Then the light bulb going off as he face lights up at having finally remembered the conversation from yesterday.
Quickly though, his face turned crimson as he’d realized his mistake.
“I am SO sorry [Y/N]. Listen, just uh,” he looked around the room once more and winced. “Just leave this here mess to me. Alright darlin’? Don’t you worry about any of it.”
He takes one of your hands in his and gives it a small kiss before leading you out of the room. Your face quickly turning red at the gesture.
“Cole Cassidy, you womanizer,” you yelled half-heartedly as you allowed him to move you.
“Only for you sweetheart,” he said while giving you a wink and picking up the discarded cushion in the hall that had first caught your attention. “Now go on and get yourself a nice cup of tea with Hanzo or somethin’.”
“Mmhmm, I’ll be back in an hour Cole. And if this place isn’t picked up by then, I’m keeping that poncho of yours for myself.”
His only response was to lean against the doorjamb and give out a chuckle. A love-struck look on his face as he watched you walk around the corner.
Clutching the cushion to his chest, Cole turns back around to his mess.
He’d completely forgotten about the girls huddled together in the corner of the room. The girls who’d definitely just watched what had happened. And judging by the way their faces were lit up like a tree on Christmas mornin’, he’d assume they also saw the aftermath that was of him staring at your form leaving.
His face flushed again but this time in embarrassment.
“You fight like an old married couple!” Lena yelled in excitement.
“Are you sure you two aren’t married!?” Hana let out immediately after her.
Unable to form a coherent thought, Cassidy wildly gestured to the door.
“Out! Both a’y’all!”
Giggling to each other, they ran out of the room and Cassidy was able to breathe normally again. But that interaction did give him an idea.
He wondered how opposed you’d be to a trip and to Hanamura sometime. It was springtime and the Shimada brothers’ were always going on about how beautiful it was during then.
With a full heart and a head full of ideas Cole Cassidy began to move everything back to its proper place.
