Part 12 in shipping different railway companies together, I guess this, like Part 10 isn't exactly a ship.
May I introduce you to the London Airport Express Group. They aren't a relationship or anything, just a LinkedIn group of airport workers in and around London. They work on a fast, frequent and efficient working.
The group consists of: Heathrow Express, she is the prestigious and classy one. Gatwick Express, he does a fast intercity service serving a much larger region out of anyone in the group. Stansted Express, she is the dedicated in the group but still works well, though doesn't work quite as efficiently.
Other people want to join the group: East Midlands, who doesn't operate a proper direct service. Greater Anglia, who doesn't even try to work efficiently. Elizabeth Line, which does work is kind of accepted as a friend of the group as she was a friend of Heathrow Express' now dead sister (Heathrow Connect).
man, they are not kidding when they say "Mind the gap" on the London tube. Yup, took a header transferring at Holborn - so smooth.
eight days on, and still:
ugh
and it's still all raised up, tender, and swollen underneath. i swear i hope i didn't chip the bone or something, since i got whacked in the exact same place with the edge of a steel dolly a decade ago (i do think a bit of my legging is still caught in the scab bc i was too afraid to pick at it - it didn't bleed much once i'd gotten to where i could look at it). and that's just the right leg.
Hello, London! Good Morning, Lord!
An early “good morning” to our dear friends and family. Yesterday, at noon – Austin time, we flew to Dallas/Fort Worth for our flight across the ocean! Since we’re six hours ahead of Austin’s time – we arrived at 8:30 a.m. in London’s Heathrow Airport! What a dream come true for us! Yes, this is a whole new experience for us! First stop after deboarding — we picked up our luggage. Then it was…
The first time my husband and I traveled to London fifteen years ago, we were actually traveling to Oxford first for my BFF’s wedding, and we were trying to be conscientious about how we spent our money. We took the Piccadilly Line to Paddington before hopping a train to Oxford. I didn’t have a ton of photos from the journey, as I didn’t want to bring out my little digital camera unnecessarily, but I’m glad I have these few photos.
For every work trip my husband has made here since then, he’s opted for the Heathrow Express to get into Central London, and it was the right choice for us this time around given that we were staying at a hotel about ten minutes away on foot from Paddington Station. (I should also note that the Underground wasn’t available to us, as we had arrived just in time for a multi-day tube strike, but I’ll elaborate on that more in a separate post.) I bought my fare ahead of time and was able to take advantage of getting a discount for doing so on the app, which was great for me because I could take a screenshot of my ticket to use instead of depending on station wifi.
(Did I sign up for Verizon’s international data plan before I left? Yes. I was also on a mission to not o activate it if I was with someone with either an international plan paid for by work (my husband) or a local plan because they’re a resident (my BFF), and this meant I only activated the Verizon plan for two days of the seven we were in London, which made me feel like I had gotten away with some sort of scam. More on that in a later post.)
When I turned back to see the exterior of Paddington for the first time, the sky that beautiful September blue, I had a great feeling about this trip. Spoiler alert: I was right about that feeling.
