36. How does your character behave around people they dislike?

Xiao... behaves. Acts civil if there is a need to work with those people or just be in their general vicinity for good and valid reasons. Their resting bitch face might look a little bit more pronounced, but their voice and actions remain as calm and casual as ever. 

Really though, Xiao is the type to be avoiding such people as much as possible if they feel anything negative towards them anyway, since those kinds of emotions would stir the bad energy within them.

"Is this Liyue?” He mused, awe and shock heavy in his voice as he stared out at the massive city from the edge of the cliff. He stared, silently before looking to his fellow Yaksha. 

He didn’t really know what he was expecting, and in hindsight he felt like a fool for staring down with a doe eyed glee as people went about their business below, blissfully unaware of just who was watching from above.

“It’s beautiful.” He felt himself grinning ear to ear, for the first time in a while feeling a level a joy he had thought he’d never feel yet again. It was cathartic and exciting all at the same time. 

“And the humans are in charge of it all now?” Impressive but, “do you believe they can handle it, brother?”

       Beneath the mask lips were curled in a snarl, polearm embedded into the dirt beside him as what remained of the Ruin Grader crumbled in a heap. Annoying, useless machines that often terrorized those traversing the area they roamed.  

        “ I’ll be fine. ”      Gruff words forced out as he skirted around a direct response. The searing irritation on his side where the foe's laser assault struck was still bearable, he’d be okay after a respite back at the Inn. With a narrowed gaze Xiao did a cursory scan over her for any signs of visible injuries, before questioning —       “ what about you? ”  

    Her lips curl into a frown at Xiao’s reply, especially now that she can catch a glimpse of his wounds. She’d almost certain she saw him intercept that laser beam... most others would be dead after an assault of that magnitude. As concerned as she is over his wellbeing, though, it’s clear that fussing over him will do no good. She can respect that, though.

    “I’m unharmed, thanks to you,” she admits. The humanoid war machine had taken her by surprise, a rare occurrence in and of itself. Ruin guards are something she’s used to; the thing lying in a heap beside them is not.

    “What is that thing? I’ve never seen anything like it.” She prides herself in knowing the Liyue landscape better than anyone, so she’s shocked to have run into an unknown threat.

I had once forgone my Illuminated Beast form after I’d cultivated to become a God? ” Twas not as if disliked her beastly form — but it had once held a string of a rather disheartening past . . . one laced in the dust clouds of bitterness resentment. “ It’d only been since recently — after befriending the others Gods and Adepti, that I’d changed such thoughts. ” “ There is strength that can be found in vulnerability — just as there is gentleness that can be found in such strength. ”

Well, that was a rather rude awakening. He blinked, squinting up to see- ah, yes, that was explain the rather blunt nature of his wake up call.

"Funny." He yawned, turning back over on the deck of Wangshu Inn to face the wall- and away from Xiao. "Here I thought I was sleeping perfectly fine... five more minutes."

“i know, but nonetheless...”

amber eyes looked xiao over, ensuring that he wasn’t showing any injury. the conqueror of demons may have been formidable, but he was certainly not invincible; zhongli would do all he could to ensure the last yaksha would be protected.

eventually, perhaps he would find some semblance of peace.

“be careful, all right? not for my sake, but your own.”
