Edom.
A place he’d never wanted to be. Never wanted to see. Never wanted to rule. And yet here he was.
And trapped.
The very small comfort being that he had not banished his father back here. At least he didn’t have to tolerate that.
A small comfort considering he would live the rest of his immortal life here. His eyes fell to the ring on his finger. The only one that truly mattered. And his chest ached. How he wished he’d had another moment, even just one, with Alexander.
Days went by so slowly here. Weeks even. It was always hard to tell. No true sun and no moon. Only electrical storms and wind and dust. His kingdom.
And he could never leave.
The air shifted suddenly, in a way it never did here. He stood, magic at the ready but it seemed whatever had caused it was further away then he realized. He made his way to the door, to stare at the open plains of Edom before him.
And saw it.
A portal. Closing. And figures walking from it.
It couldn’t be. It shouldn’t be.
He used the magic he had made ready and portaled there. To the figures making their way across the sand. Before the demons flying above could begin to pick them off.
“How?” he demanded, staring in shock at the one face he’d thought he wouldn’t ever see again. “Alexander, how?”
