           it’s atton , what can you expect ?? they’ve been in this banter for a few minutes , he simply hates admitting he’s wrong . only worst she’s the same way . ❝ ----- atton , come on , you should join us out there , and you know you’d be great help . ❞ there’s something off about how he so willingly volunteered to sit this one out , considering how strangely protective he’s been the past few adventures . ❝ don’t tell me you’re afraid of the jungle here . ❞ to be frank , he’s probably one of her slim pickings she trusts the most , besides bao-dur of course .

“  try  harder  .  ”    it  is  not  a  gentle  encouragement  .    they  are  cold  ,    distant  as  the  farthest  star  ,    only  offering  the  illusion  of  light  .    they  recline  in  their  chair  ,   fingers  tented  ,    betraying  nothing  but  the  vaguest  sense  of  curiosity  ,    the  faintest  glimmer  of  dark  humor  .    every  seat  looks  like  a  throne  when  they  are  placed  upon  it  ,   no  matter  how  cracked  or  dented  their  stolen  crown  may  be  ,    and  like  any  true  sovereign  their  judgement  is  absolute  .    “  you’re  smarter  than  this  .  ”

            it’s a crusty little off-road diner she’s been told to find him at, out in the middle of the desert. the cracked vinyl seat groans when she drops into the booth opposite him and before he can even offer an answer there’s a bored looking server at the end of the table filling a chipped coffee mug to the top for her. the menu that gets left behind for her is already sticky. she’s not sure she’s hungry in the first place. “you order anything?”

            “COULD HAVE, SURE.” the drink in his hand is cold, a stark contrast to the sudden plane of heat against his side. it’s a quiet place, at least, and the stars overhead are just barely dimmed by the tiny lights strung up on posts through the cantina. he doesn’t bother to look over at him; there’s something strangely reassuring in it, in whatever this is that he’s not willing to examine with any sort of clarity. camaraderie with whiskey to soften the edges, maybe. “but then you’d think i gave a shit. can’t have that.”       @hedeserted
