Agony brought him to this. Usually, pride pushed past his ability to do this -- but desperation called him better this time around. At this point, he simply couldn’t bear it, and with the other guy with him having his own set of problems, he only had one particular friend of his he could rely on during this travesty. (And no, it wasn’t Amy. Seriously, how did she keep bumping into him?)
“Tails... Please...” he begged, reaching over the side of the Tornado. “You got anything? Any kind of pain medication? Anything at all?”
Hey, to and fro transformations hurt! And certainly he avoided asking before, but he simply couldn’t take it anymore. It was exhausting.
Ready for anime expo! I'm wearing a flower dress with a teal cover up! Also some grey sneaks!! :)))
[text] I woke up this morning with 3 phone numbers, a red Chinese New Year envelope with cash in it, and a winning scratcher all stuffed in my bra. I’d say it was a pretty successful Thursday night.
[text] Wow, and exactly where was my invite? Did you think I just wanted to stick back at the flat with Lucky?
[text] How much was the scratcher worth?

They were at war and he was considered a traitor by most. It was the Ignis Gentem against the rest of the Unitum Rei Publicae’s galactic fleet, but despite what others thought, Zuko didn’t care about those two sides of the war. He had a more important side to worry about and wanted to defend.
His.
“Hotman,” his comrade said as he clapped his shoulder, “you look nice in your fights today.”
Fights--that’s what they called their uniform meant for combat. Zuko was layered in tight spandex underneath thick lightweight armor. His helmet was ready to engage any moment at the drop off point.
“This is not the time to being talking about style, Aang!” he snapped. With a huff, he added, “And don’t call me Hotman!”
But his comrade, ever easygoing and capable, just smiled at him. Though both he and Aang were part of an elite group known as A.V.A.T.A.R., his best friend was still his superior.
Though the group was to be divided in three ways to better help the mission, they already dropped off Earth Squad at their way point. Next, he and Katara, Team Steam were going straight to the capital while Aang would solo the last leg of the mission alone: The Last Airbender.
Over Aang’s shoulder, he caught Katara’s gaze from the door as she began suiting up. She smiled at him briefly, a glint in her eye before she walked out of the room.
In the carrier, it was just the two of them now, and the impending seconds of their hurried parting only seemed more suffocating. Aang’s face harden for a second and he looked Zuko square in the eye.
“I’m not going to kill him.”
Him meaning his father, the newly named Phoenix King of his home world.
They’ve been fighting about this too long now, but the ex-prince no longer wanted to fight the person he cared for most.
“Just be safe,” he said gruffly.
Aang smiled softly, bright and warm, like a purifying light in all the darkness of war. “You too.” Gesturing behind him, he jerked his thumb, “Keep her out of trouble, kay?”
Zuko was about to reply with a retort, but the alarm beeped, signaling that Aang was reaching his destination. Seconds were all they had left, so he settled for something else. “Come back, man.”
Aang grinned again, his grey eyes never leaving his. “Just make sure there’s something for me to come back to.”
Suddenly, like always, Aang rushed forward and pressed his lips against his. It was brief, but like a peck that they gave each other after coming home. They didn’t exchange more words as Aang reached his pod, waving like a mad man as it departed.
Yes, Zuko thought, the only side that matters is his.
