So about the magic, if someone had a lot of magic, is that against the law or something? I noticed that everyone freaked out when Link had a lot of magic and it intrigued me

Yes! Having a large amount of magic is a telltale sign that someone is using magical objects like rings, wands, or rods, which are illegal to use without permission. Magic itself is not against the law, as everyone in Hyrule does have a natural form of magic that they can use, but generally speaking yes it is frowned upon for reasons that will be explained later.
