I don't want to kill myself anymore in this moment. wow?
wow!
Bendy would name his playlist ‘toast’ cause those are his jams
‘’What did we have between us, Reyna?’’
The question echoed in her mind as she thought it over.
The words roll off her tongue quicker than ever, before she could fully process what she was about to say, ‘’Friendship…’’ she trails off a moment later.
‘’Mostly friendship.’’ she adds as an afterthought.
He doesn’t respond, silver tongue halting in the most awkward of situations, ‘’Mostly?’’ He questions. For the first time since they’d gotten into this dispute, he looked up at her.
‘’Yes.’’ Reyna muttered, ‘’Only friendship.’’ Meeting his eyes felt weird now. A bitter nostalgia clouding her senses as she held her head high for once. The irony was not lost on her, god forbid. Dark brown that sparkled with mischief, boldness and the faintest glimmer of something unknown. Raw, yet unknown.
‘’And if- if we disregard the ‘mostly?’ What remains then?’’
He asked, swallowing. The nervousness on his face showed visibly.
It truly felt like a morbid Deja Vu. Strangely enough though, she enjoyed it, his hesitation. A combination of awe yet fascination that felt both wrong yet pleasant.
‘’Nothing.’’ She replies despite. It was a lie of course. She’d loved the boy since she understood the meaning of love. Not-
Not quite. A treacherous voice whispered in the back of her mind. Love? You barely tolerated him. It hissed maniacally. -was she going insane?- she wondered for a moment.
‘’We had nothing but friendship.’’ She bluntly reiterated.
‘’B- but- Reyna‘’ He babbled frantically nonsensical. ’’That night-‘’
‘’-was nothing. It was the influence of alcohol and we were being stupid.’’ She interrupted.
His eyes widen as he takes a step back. ‘’I see.’’
‘’I’m glad.’’ Reyna quietly scoffs. She was done with both him and human interaction for the day, -well, night now.- but the point still stands.
‘’Off my porch now. Scram.’’ She tried to sound playful. She doubted it worked. ‘’I need my beauty sleep.’’
Reyna must’ve done something right, because ,’’As you say,’’ he chuckles, turning to leave. The first joyful sound the entire evening. Although not entirely but it still counted for something, she supposed, mentally shrugging.
_
Hours later, just as she’s planning to get into bed, under the warm duvet and drift off to sleep, she hears banging on her door.
-What maniac would show up at midnight, when it’s pouring outside?- She thinks while she’s walking to the door, half drowsy.
What greets her outside is-
She lets out a sigh of resignation
-Is her ex best friend. ‘’Yes?’’ She drawls in an attempt to seem casual. -fuck, fuck, fuck- she internally chants. However the voice in her head is crowing; triumphant.
‘’What did you say to him?’’ She almost shrieks. ‘’I wont ask again. What. Did. You. Say?’’
‘’To who?’’ With all the yelling and the lightening striking faintly in the distance, Reyna knows a headache is on-coming; practically tastes it on her tongue as she swallows, mouth going dry.
‘’My boyfriend.’’ Julia huffs, ‘’Your ex best friend??’’ She elaborates as if it were obvious.
Not him,- she thinks, -Never him.-
‘’Please, Julia.’’ She rolls her eyes, scoffing. ‘’I only told him the truth.’’
-Just you.-
She backs up., ‘’Wha- what truth?’’ She hisses out as if the words were poison. Lurching forward, she grabs Reyna's arm in a way that hurts, nails digging in. ‘’Reyna, what did you tell him?’’
Her own brows furrow for a moment, and then it clicks. ‘’Relax.’’ She’s tempted to roll her eyes again. ‘’Not that. I simply told him what we were.’’ Pausing for a moment, she thinks over her words. ‘’Him and I.’’
‘’Which is?’’ She leans further in, eyes practically blazing with fury yet panic.
‘’Friends. Ex-friends now, yet still.’’ Reyna tilts her head, ‘’Why, is he acting dramatic again?’’
‘’None of your business.’’ She snaps, looking over to the side. The rain has slowed down, but lightening still thunders.
‘’Would you let go of my arm now?.’’ She asks, raising a brow.
She lets go abruptly, seemingly unaware of her own grip on Reyna’s forearm. ‘’Thank you.’’ Reyna mutters sarcastically,
Julia doesn’t respond, more focused on leaving, it seems, as she readies her umbrella to step into the rain once more. But turns, facing Reyna once more, a frantic look in her eyes, all of a sudden.
‘’You-‘’ she takes a step forward, ‘’You wont tell him, right?’’
‘’Hmn?’’ She looks up at the other. ‘’Oh-‘’ she remembers now. ‘’Why, scared of what he’ll do if he finds out?’’ Reyna smirks, leaning against the doorway. Pathetic. The voice croons out after quite a while, unbelievably fond.
‘’Promise me.’’ Julia grabs her by the shoulders, abandons the umbrella as it tumbles down the steps of her porch. ‘’Swear to me you’ll never tell him.’’
Reyna thinks about it, she truly does. Back when they were still something, -anything.- and she was starstruck over the other girl, she’d consider it.
It wasn’t easy to give Julia up, no. She was always so tempting. Bent on denying she’d ever enjoy anything they had, until in the very heat of the moment. There was a certain fun in the back & forth they had.
It's only when Julia’s pleading voice fades back in when she realises she’d been zoned out. ‘’Please,’’ she begs still.
‘’Julia,’’ she rasps, still thinking against it, but knows-‘’Julia, get away.’’ She warns the other, ‘’Get away before I do something I regret.’’ knows it's pointless.
Her eyes widen, -why didn’t she just let go?- wonders Reyna mournfully, before giving in.
Before she finally presses her lips to Julias.
Eyes still wide, the other melts into it, instinctively. But pulls away a second later. ‘’I-‘’ she stutters, ‘’I have to go.’’ She rushes off the porch, forgetting her umbrella.
‘’Julia! Wait-‘’ she tries to call but the others too far gone. She exhales regretfully, and closes the door, leaning against it. ‘’I warned her.’’
Mind blank, a distinct thunk is heard as she leans her head dramatically on the door, mentally counting down from five.
Three
Two
One.
She opens the door once again, seeing Julia on the other side, hand curled into a fist, hesitating to knock.
‘’Hi.’’ Reyna mutters, leaning against the doorway, as if nothing had happened at all.
Like she always does.
‘’Hi.’’ Julia says.
A moment passes in silence, and then another.
‘’I thought you had to go?’’ She finally breaks the ice, wearing a playful soft smirk on her face. Hopefully it masked her desperation.
‘’I did.’’ The other responds. ‘’Not anymore.’’
‘’Oh?’’
‘’Mhm.’’
‘’Would you- like to come in?’’
‘’I’’ hesitation is the only emotion visible in the moment. ‘’ I would.’’
She steps aside to let Julia in.
‘’I missed you.’’
A silence loud enough to pierce.
‘’So did I.’’
