Ken’s Gardens

Took a weird and wild trip the other day to find vermiculite for my tarantula substrate. Failed visits to a couple different places led me to the incredible place that is Ken’s Gardens. It was a bit of a drive from me, but it was worth it. 

Not only did I find the vermiculite I was searching for, but I also spend an hour and a half picking out the coolest birthday present ever for my stepdad.

He saw ornamental peppers like these a few years ago and I never forgot how obsessed he was with them. They also came in Goth Purple.

Speaking of purple, I love heirloom vegetables but only online. I plan on starting my own little garden this year, and Ken’s Gardens has an AMAZING selection of different varieties. All sorts of greens, veggies, and whatever this is:

I got him one of these and two of these mini pepper bois for like $4.00 on sale. He’s going to be so excited. The peppers, pots, and soil all came to $22.00 or so, for sale price. Even at regular cost, their prices are very reasonable and their facility was so big I got lost several times. If you’re into gardening or vivarium making you can’t go wrong here, its positive reputation is well earned.

I forgot to take pictures but they have the most amazing houseplant and terrarium rooms. This would be a great place to get plants for vivs, I was half tempted to buy a few. They had tiny 2″ potted terrarium plants for $1.50-2.00 a pop and the bigger ones were only $6.00 or so. Maybe another time.

To top it all off, there was even this glorious gentleman snoozing by the succulents.

I don’t know his name, but he’s a handsome, chatty man with giant ass feet.

Look at those big ol clompers. That’s just too many toes for one man, he had at least five or six on one paw. I was not expecting this man. The cashier said he usually doesn’t like people but he wouldn’t leave me alone and followed me around, meowing for attention.

All in all, 11/10 would visit again. If you’re in this part of Pennsylvania it’s well worth the drive. I can imagine in the spring it must be even better. I didn’t take many pictures but it’s really one of the coolest nurseries I’ve ever seen and you gotta see it in person to believe it.

They even gave me this free squash for coming by. This place really does have everything.
