Trust in the LORD with ALL your HEART (November 16, 2019)
A few days ago, I finally finished Psalm and reached Proverbs. The verses that stuck out was Proverbs 3:1-12. Particularly, the part that stuck out to me was the following:
“Let not steadfast love and faithfulness forsake you; bind them around your neck; write them on the tablet of your heart. So you will find favor and good success in the sight of God and man. Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths. Be not wise in your own eyes; fear the LORD, and turn away from evil. It will be healing to your flesh and refreshment to your bones.” Proverbs 3:3-8
God reminds us of steadfast love and faithfulness. As Christians, it seems like God is trying to tell us that steadfast love and faithfulness are crucial. How can we practice steadfast love and faithfulness to the world though? As humans, it is honestly so difficult to even love everyone. Yet, God asks us to keep steadfast love and faithfulness around our necks and in our hearts. He continues and says that is how we will find favor and success in God but also men. It seems like the verse is implying that for the humans of this world to know about God, they have to see steadfast love and faithfulness in us.
The chapter continues to the classic Bible verse that most Christians encounter often. “Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.” God reminds us that our trust must be in Him and Him alone. He reminds us not to lean on our own understanding, which I struggle to follow. I always find myself wanting to learn on my lacking understanding. I know that I do not know what is best for me, but as fleshly beings, it is so easy to think that I know what is best for me. When I am thinking I know what is best for myself, I am disregarding God’s voice. I am not being humble, but rather boastful of my own abilities. Why am I trying to boast about my own abilities when the little abilities I have are all from the Lord? Who am I to say I know what is best for me when everything good comes from the Lord?
The next verses were new to me. “Be not wise in your own eyes; fear the LORD, and turn away from evil. It will be healing to your flesh and refreshment to your bones.” Be not wise in your own eyes kept sticking out to me. For the past few months, I was not following this. I was thinking I knew my direction in life. I was thinking I got the future in my hands. However, I have been reminded by this verse and the events in life that I need to pay attention to God’s voice more. I am so distracted by this world that I get sucked into the world unknowingly. God calls us to fear Him and turn away from evil. Yet, I fail to do this.
The thing is...without God...I wouldn’t even have these convictions. I would truly be nothing. I would have no purpose in life. I would just live meaningless for this broken world. It is funny how I become so selfish and focused on myself, when there is so much more to this world. God called us for a purpose. When we try to direct our own life, we tend to miss God’s purpose for us. So, I pray that as chapter teaches us, may we trust in the LORD. We may think we are headed in the right direction, but you never know when God will change your course in life. In those moments, may we all fully trust that the LORD knows exactly what is good for us. Let us fear Him and seek Him more and more each day. May we give all glory to the LORD for HE LOVES US and is ALWAYS there for us. May we not try to figure things out on our own, but turn to the Lord. May we turn away from our fleshly sins and face the Lord and follow His ways. <3

I've had this book since it came out. 11 years. Since I got it, I've dreamed about having it signed... And that dream came true in March, when I got this as an early birthday gift and whenever I feel bad, I look at this. Whenever I am getting worse, I remember meeting him and what he told me.
