Normally Jongin didn’t necessarily go looking to start things with people, contrary to popular belief. He didn’t want to always necessarily argue with others or be difficult, but people often took his deadpan expression and the air he carried with him as something aggressive and threatening. It helped, of course, that he had a rather small scope of emotions that actually managed to seep through and that he had a nasty habit of being a little too honest even when the situation didn’t call for his opinion.
That was the case, at least, with dance club when his vision fell upon a poor girl who he was nearly convinced had ended up there by mistake. There were plenty that weren’t as good as he was, it wasn’t arrogance - only a fact, but she seemed harmless and seemed to genuinely be trying. And he wasn’t sure if he pitied her or questioned her sanity. She wasn’t awful, he’d seen worse, but it was kind of an odd selection of clubs if it wasn’t her strongest trait.
So when they had called a break, he approached the girl. “Hey,” he greeted, suddenly feeling slightly odd about the moment. He generally wasn’t ever the type to approach others or make meaningless small talk. “I’m not going to make small talk, but you’re kind of a shitty dancer,” he said before she was able to respond, should she have wanted to do so vocally. “Like…I would say no offense but I think that’s a little late. But I don’t mean it to be an asshole, I mean it like…do you want some help with your dancing? Because I think you could be a lot better than whatever this is you’re doing.”
He was well aware that he definitely wasn’t the most tactful or eloquent person around, but he thought he at least managed to get his point across. Of course, he realized a moment after the words had left him that he couldn’t blame her if she got upset. After all, who was he to approach someone and insult them? In his mind it was more of an effort to help, but he had always been a bit too brash to be what most people expected helpful to be.
