A NEW KICKSTARTER IS LAUNCHED:
In short, I’m writing and directing a comedy web series and I need your help!
There are funny things about working at any job; that co-worker who discloses too much personal information, the daily game of Tetris fitting your lunch in the fridge, the fact that you get paid to surf Facebook for eight hours a day.
But what’s so funny about start ups specifically? You name it. Unlimited vacation time, beer on tap, dog friendly work environments – the list goes on. When you combine that with a fish out of water story hilarity ensues, as they say.
Enter our hero Rob – a college grad who’s been working as a movie theater manager for years and needs his first “big boy” job to make ends meat. The job market is fierce but he lands a promising interview at a hot start-up. This would be Rob’s first desk job. He’s eager to work but has still has plenty to learn.
Rob is a staunch Republican transplant to the “blueberry” of Austin, Texas. The city is growing and start ups are popping up left and right – but mostly left. Rob must bite his tongue as he faces personal and professional challenges in a progressive, liberal office that makes no attempt to hide their political views.
We want to tell Rob’s story. Whether you fall to the left, right or somewhere in-between, I think we can all relate to struggling to be yourself.
Jackson Pounds (Rob, our hero)
Thank you for reading this far. I’ve come to Kickstarter for the first time to raise funds for a film project. We need $5,000 to pay for our talented, professional cast and crew, catering, props, post-production, and festival entry fees. Every dollar will go into the production, post-production and rewards delivery. I’ve shot short films where nobody gets paid – that’s a way to get work out there, but not the way to get your best work out there. We can’t do this without your help!
Tom Helberg (the boss)
Tom Helberg – writer/director – Tom has written and directed short films that have played at festivals in Texas, his home state of Nebraska and beyond. This year his comedy script Speechless made the semi-final round at Omaha Film Festival and the finalist round at Hill Country Film Festival.
Jonathan Powell – director of photography – JP has shot numerous short films, music videos and commercials. He currently resides in Houston, Texas.
Travis Jackson Pounds – lead actor – He’s a sophomore BFA Acting major at Texas State University. He was geeked at birth and is consistently looking to better his craft. He’s currently residing in San Marcos, Texas.
Risks and challenges
The pilot was purposefully made with minimal people involved, but to tell this story right we need a larger cast and crew. I’ve written and directed short films before, but none have been at the length or scale of this project. I’m confident that I’m ready to take the next step, and I already have wonderful collaborators on board to help with anything that comes up.
