one of my only complaints about wkm is that they aren’t direct about the gay shit. While yes the characters are problematic I do feel like it’s evenly spread across them enough that it wouldn’t be unfair. It can be done and I feel like it would help enhance the emotional sincerity of certain parts.
Yes it’s heavily implied that Abe and Wilford are queer but that’s not the same as confirmation. I would like to see it gain more weight than just jokes.
I want to use the Penumbra Podcast Juno Steel as some examples of how this is a possible direction that isn’t out of reach. heck, if we need a more dark / cude comedy example there’s Hellava Boss, which while it has it’s own problems we can’t say that it’s not diverse.
We don’t need an on screen kiss or anything, just a solid footing to be able to see these lgbt traits as something other than purely a joke in this series. You can still make jokes it’s just that they’ll have more impact if the audience has a better understanding of the character’s backgrounds.
