He was, of course, guilty of what he was being accused of, but given who he happened to be, that shouldn’t have been all that surprising. He was a criminal mastermind, the king of all those involved in the seedy underbelly of the pirate life– Him doing anything even remotely illegal shouldn’t have been surprising in the slightest bit.

       Mia is afraid of children ------ she wasn’t always.  But there is something about spending three years being tormented by the sensation of a little girl under your skin.  About watching a little girl turn your friend to tar.  Mia is afraid of children, let alone ones with big dark eyes and dark hair ---

                   Mia is afraid of children, and she spent years offering her services to an organization that would build bioweapons out of people, but she is not evil and she never truly has been.  So when she spots a child, alone, looking pensive within the crowd, she acts.  Her hands shake and she tucks them behind her back even as she takes several steps nearer.  

                 “Sweetheart?”  Her voice scarcely shakes.  Her nails dig into her palms.  “Where are your parents?”

            “Do you want that?”  She’s watched the little kid eyeing the overly large lollipop for what feels like ages as Ashley herself struggles to decide between mini oreos or snack packs.  ( not for her.  she doesn’t eat much anymore. )  “I’ve got a little extra money; I could buy it for you, if you want.”
