Sundays

It was a lazy Sunday morning, as Eddie and Chrissy nestled themselves comfortably in their trailer.

Nestled comfortably on the couch, Chrissy found herself drawn to the warmth radiating from Eddie's chest. She looks at him with a smile. "Is it ok if I just move a little closer?" Chrissy looks at Eddie, longingly at his weary face. "Not at all," Eddie smiled. Chrissy nestled closer, feeling the steady rhythm of his breath and the comforting beat of his heart. The static noise of the TV casts a gentle ambience which mirrors their deepening connection. In the arms of her angel, Chrissy's weariness slowly melts away, replaced with contentment and belonging.

Eddie gently runs his fingers through her hair, as he slowly falls into a deep slumber with Chrissy, joining her in a dream world of their own.

Anniversary Ficlet Fest

My one year anniversary for my hellcheer fics (or any fanfiction, really) is tomorrow, september 2! To date, I've created 28 works, published 368,511 words on ao3 (what. the. fuck.), and received a grand total of 46,071 hits! This is absolutely bonkers to me because one year ago I was hovering nervously over the "post" key, certain no one would ever read my fic, let alone want more. But the hellcheer community has been so welcoming, positive, and encouraging that here I am, one year later and still going strong.

In celebration of this, today and tomorrow (sept. 1 and 2) my inbox is open and welcoming for any hellcheer prompts (SFW or NSFW) you'd like to send. And over the next few days I'll try to answer as many of them as possible in ficlet form!

Thanks again, you guys, your comments and interactions have been such a bright spot in a really tough year. I treasure each and every word 💛

Despite their love for animals, Eddie and Chrissy didn't want to keep pets as they didn't have the time, energy and money for them. The thing is, they didn't step into an animal shelter for once in their lives until they received a volunteer invitation from a long-lost friend, Billy, who runs an animal shelter for stray and abandoned animals.

"You ready for this?" Chrissy inquired, her arms wrapped around Eddie. "Yeah." Eddie smiles. "Volunteering in animal shelters is on my bucket list, although not so to most people as they've done it before." He pushed the creaky wooden door of the animal shelter and was greeted by chirps, barking and meows that tugged at their hearts.

Eddie stares at the cockatiel in the cage and teases it lovingly, making Chrissy laugh to calm themselves as they have no idea what to expect as first-time volunteers. Billy, the shelter owner, greets them with a warm smile.

"Having fun eh, Eddie? That's the cockatiel that Harrington adopted. She's our shelter mascot." "Speaking of Steve, where is he?" Eddie replies. "Harrington? He took the day off to clean the house." Billy looks at the clipboard, flipping through the papers on their tasks. He puts his clipboard on a table and introduces Eddie and Chrissy to the tasks for the day.

Of course, their first job was to clean the kennels. Eddie grabs a spray hose and sprays down the kennel as Chrissy scrubs the stubborn dirt and grime off—hard work, but it was worthwhile to them.

As time goes by, Eddie and Chrissy start getting good at their duties, and discover ways to connect with the quirks and personalities of each dog and cat. On a fine day, Eddie and Chrissy take a break from their work, spotting a playful beagle that was playfully wagging its tail. It reminds Chrissy of the family dog she had years ago, since she was a child. Despite its passing, there was never a time that she did not think of it and she often shares her stories with it to Eddie, although she stopped recently. Until now.

It seems like Eddie could read Chrissy telepathically as he pops the question: "I have been thinking about it, it's time we give this beagle a home. What do you say?"

"Let's do it," Chrissy spoke, her eyes feeling with tears of joy. "That is exactly what I was hoping for."

Marie

"Hey there, how's my lovely little girl doing?" Eddie watched in awe as Chrissy cradled their newborn daughter, Marie, in her arms. The dimly lit hospital room creates an intimate ambience which perfectly encapsulates the depths of love Eddie and Chrissy had for each other. From their first date to gaining acceptance from Eddie's uncle and Chrissy's father, their journey had been a whirlwind of emotions and anticipation. Now, to the moment when Eddie and Chrissy gazed upon their tiny miracle, words seemed to fall short. In the soft glow of the bed shine lamp, Marie's eyes fluttered open for the first time. Her brown eyes, as they stared at Chrissy's eyes, they held curiosity and innocence. It was as if she was silently asking questions about the world she had just entered, and Eddie and Chrissy were more than willing to answer.

However, Eddie is overwhelmed with a mix of emotions. Would he be a good father? Could he protect Marie from the uncertainties of the world? He felt the weight of responsibility settles on his shoulders, aware that he was now responsible for this fragile life.

As he leaned closer to Marie, whispering sweet words of welcome, he couldn't help but wonder if he was ready for the challenges that awaited him. The sleepless nights, the endless feedings, and the daunting task of guiding this tiny soul through life all loomed before him. Despite all that, Eddie had decided he would not give up on Marie, no matter what she had become.

Similar sentiments were shared by Chrissy. Could she be the mother Marie deserved? How would she support Marie while battling the insecurities that occasionally crept into her mind? These doubts, like faint shadows, flickered in her eyes.

Empathetically, Eddie noticed the worry etched on Chrissy's face and gently squeezed her hand, to offer her reassurance. With a voice steady and full of conviction, Chrissy whispers promises to her daughter. "I am here to protect your heart. I am here to love you and hold you in my arms forever. I will do anything to make you happy. I promise you that. I love you, Marie."

In that moment, the room seemed to hold its breath, as if it were privy to the sacred vow that Chrissy made to her family and Eddie. The love between Eddie and Chrissy, though tender, was fortified by their shared commitment to Marie. Deep in their hearts, Eddie and Chrissy know that they would be great parents, as they vowed to protect Marie from the similar and unkind trials they encountered during their upbringing. And they will achieve that, in due time.

Heart-shaped pancakes

As the first pancake sizzled on the griddle, Eddie couldn't help but think of the memories he and Chrissy had created together. From their first date to their adventures in the Upside Down, they had built a life filled with love, laughter, and to a certain extent downs.

With a flip of his wrist, the first heart-shaped pancake was ready. It wasn't perfect, but it was made with all the affection in his heart. Eddie plated it and moved on to the next one, and then the next, until a stack of imperfectly perfect heart-shaped pancakes adorned the plate. He placed a tiny slab of butter and a splash of maple syrup to finish his touches. The aroma of pancakes wafted through the air, filling the room with a comforting scent. Eddie finished plating the last pancake, as his usual sneaky self—tiptoeing slowly and stealthily like a cat as he holds the tray of pancakes.

"Breakfast is ready," Eddie whispers to Chrissy, his eyes twinkling. She slowly opens her eyes, covering her mouth as she yawns.

Chrissy's eye widens as she looks at the heart-shaped pancakes. Her eyes were welled in tears of joy, moved by his gesture. "Eddie, you don't have to..." "But I wanted to," Eddie interrupted gently. "Although the pancakes are not as perfect as the love we shared, they're still made with the same love and devotion I had for you."

Eddie places the pancakes on the table. Chrissy walks over to Eddie and gives him the tightest hug that he has yearned for. "You always know how to make my heart melt." "I hope these heart-shaped pancakes are just the beginning of a day filled with love and happiness." Eddie puts his hands on Chrissy's, wanting the moment to last longer. As Eddie and Chrissy enjoy their breakfast, the imperfection of the pancakes fades away in the warmth of their connection. As they say, the way to a woman's heart is through her stomach, and it's also the simplest of gestures that hold the most profound meaning in a relationship.

It is that, for Eddie and Chrissy.
