Hi I'm fairly new to helpol and you seem awesome, do u have any book recommendations?

Hello! I have a few. I'm still working my way through the Hellenism-focused books out there.

Theogony by Hesiod is a great book for understanding how the families of the theoi were created and how they were understood.

Hellenic Polytheism: Household Worship by LABRYS I love love love. It gives detailed instruction of historically accurate household worship. It shows you how to set up a home altar and a few rituals.

Mystery Cults in the Ancient World by Hugh Bowen dives deep into the mystery cults with lots of historical context.

The Waters of Mnemosyne by Gwendolyn Reece is another one of my favorites! This book is a great catch-all for Hellenism topics that are beautifully presented. There is a meditation to connect with each Olympian.

Hellenismos by Tony Mierzwicki gives wonderful historical context and how it can translate to present day practice.

(I do not recommend Secrets of Greek Mysticism by George Lizos.)

Just got these from the library! I love getting books like these from the library because I get to figure out (FOR FREE!) which translations I like the best. Then I can commit to buying the version I know I’m going to enjoy over and over again. 😁👍🏻📚

Ooh what books did you get? Okay so here’s my current Hellenic to-read list: Greek Tragedies volume 2 and 3 (1 is on order with Sappho as previously mentioned), Greek Religion, Constellation Myths, Kharis, The Amazons, and The Greek Way Of Death. Some of these were recommends by you, thanks! Any other suggestions to my slowly growing list? ~ Seafoam Star

Here’s what I got!

I’ve been trying to read the 3 Ancient Greek books on and off from the library for awhile now so I finally decided to just buy them bc I think I’ll be happier if I can mark them up and also take my time without worrying about a deadline.

I’m hoping to get a lot of reading done this winter season. I should probably make my own list of what I want to have read by the time Persephone makes her way back to the above ground.

And as I’m typing this Moo Kitty is legit exploring both my my Hellenism bookshelf and my altar. I take that as a sign that the gods approve lol!
