Hello! I'm a 33-year-old Hellenic polytheist and Apollo devotee. I’ve been working with the Greek gods in one way or another since 2021 and consider myself a revivalist. I found HelPol after leaving my upbringing of fundamentalist Christianity in my early 20's.

This is my space to talk about my experiences with the theoi, how I tie them into my craft, and finding others like me.

The First Sign I Received from a God

This is the first clear sign I got from Apollo in 2021. I was easing into neopaganism skeptical and unsure I was communicating with anything. After a year and a half of being an atheist (and before that leaving the fundamentalist Church of Christ flavor of Christianity), I doubted any higher powers existed at all.

One night, I decided to give deity communication a try. I sat down and began my meditation, reaching out in my mind. I felt the warmth of the sun on my skin and a gentle presence. Apollo. Aphrodite appeared next with floral scents that hadn’t been there before.

So began my relationship with the Greek gods as they have been the main pantheon that has shown such care and reciprocation towards me.

I tentatively continued building a relationship with Apollo and Aphrodite mainly by burning candles (I wasn’t educated on all the ways to give offerings and show devotion). Slowly, my existential doubt crept back in.

I burned a small yellow votive candle for Apollo unsure yet again if he was real or if I made it all up. The first picture is what resulted. The wax melted into a musical note. A gift from the god of music, poetry, prophecy, and healing.

After praying to the Christian god for 20 years with no response, I was in awe. This awe never fades as I’ve gotten concrete evidence of the presence of the Theoi over the years.

All hail the deathless gods!

worshipping aphrodite feels like coming home after a long day and getting that hug you’ve needed for 12 hours. it feels like swimming in the ocean for the first time and breathing in the salty air around you. it feels like sitting by a warm fire with a cup of hot chocolate and knowing it’s all ok. it feels like love and acceptance and knowing that no matter what you are worthy of all the little moments that make life worth living <3

I’ve done enough EMDR at this point that I’m beginning to be able to trust again. It’s causing a huge identity crisis. I’m not 100% sure I want to be a witch anymore.

I feel like I’d rather focus on building kharis with the gods, trusting them to guide my life in the best direction. Of course I will still pray for things, but I feel my white-knuckled grip on life loosening.

I’m entering a new season of life.

I’ve been doing EMDR since March and even when I ventured away from HelPol, Apollo and Hygeia never left my side. They were always there when we ended every session in my safe place.

It means so much to me. The gods really do love us.
