We know I’m very very new to creative writing, and homegirl has a question.

My brain doesn’t do the plot thing.

For example: I reblogged a prompt list a week or so ago and I got a couple that I would LOVE to make work... but I cannot for the life of me come up with a plot for them. Very vague, general ideas of where I could place them in the timeline, maybe. Specifics? Absolutely nothing. Once I have ideas and a basic outline, I am GOOD. I can fly through. But that has happened very few times, obviously.

I feel like this is also why I always SUCKED at improv in high school and college. My brain cannot create original content. I feel like I’m incapable of “yes, and.”

So I guess my question is: to you fanfic writers out there, how do you get your brain to do the thing? How do you generate ideas? Help a sister out. I so desperately want to write but I open up a doc and stare at the blinking cursor and there’s just a black hole where my brain should be.
