The Hunt is set to start soon, but before it does, one of the Stags makes it way to me. I don’t know how much of its human mind it retains, yet I note the way it approaches with a sense of familiarity.

“Hello there,” I say softly, not wanting to startle it. For all I know, it could very well be running on a deer’s natural instinct. I reach out my hand, slowly, and let it decide if it wants to make contact.
