san sebastián is nice. san sebastián is really nice. sienna regrets her initial distaste for the town. she dislikes everything initially, so it's no surprise she disliked her erasmus placement at first. she is used to london's geography, climate, architecture, and food. now that she's had a few weeks to adjust to the spanish way of life, sienna has decided it's not terrible. the most difficult part has been putting her very limited spanish to use ( and she knows how to say about three words in basque ), but thankfully many spaniards speak english.
there's a festival in san sebastián today and apparently people from neighboring villages came. all of sienna's fellow exchange students were buzzing about it last night, so sienna decided to check it out. 👀 there is a basque band playing and a local choir just sang gabriel's message. some food vendors are selling local specialties. some children are getting their faces painted. it's all very nice, but sienna doesn't know what to do. she would go say hi to the other exchange students, but they're chattering in rapid german, and they also don't seem to like her very much, so she awkwardly stands off to the side. then she gets tired of standing there and doing nothing.
she ducks into a little courtyard tucked away behind one of the buildings ( to get away from all the sound and sights and smells ), and she's surprised to find someone there, sitting on a bench and crying. sienna immediately freezes, because how does one interact with someone who is crying? she stares very awkwardly, adjusts her glasses, and lingers near the entrance, in case she's asked to leave.
❛ you... good? ❜ she realizes she's speaking english after she's already spoken, but she doesn't know how to say what she wants in spanish. hopefully this girl speaks english. she appears to be around the same age as sienna, and she's definitely not one of the other exchange students, so she's probably a local. ❛ er... do you want a water or something? or, like, fruit? i could go, er, get some? ❜
