good morning, is it possible for executive dysfunction to cause speech issues?
Good evening, and I’m honestly not sure. I don’t know enough about the way that executive dysfunction functions in our brain to deduce whether or not it might affect your speech (and I tried to research it, but I’m tired and my brain isn’t working and I cannot focus on the difficult langauge that neuroscientists use right now). Aside from that, I don’t know what speech issues you’re talking about specifically, so I can’t really answer this question anyway.
From what I know about executive dysfunction, I guess that it would be possible for it to cause certain speech issues. Some that I can come up with right now:
Executive function affects your ability to plan ahead, which may result in you switching up words constantly because you didn’t properly plan what you were going to say.
Executive function helps you to multitask, so having trouble with it might result in you being unable to talk while also doing another thing, or only being able to do so with great difficulty.
Executive function helps you think flexible, so it’s possible that having trouble with it might result in a one-way conversation where you refuse to change the subject simply because it doesn’t occur to you the other might want to. (though this might be more of a social issue)
If you are talking about other speech issues (for example: going semi- or non-verbal, having trouble pronouncing certain words, having trouble with inflections, etc), I don’t think executive dysfunction would be the cause of that. I do know that these problems are very typical for autistic people, but I cannot remember the rationel behind that right now.
If you suspect that executive dysfunction might be the cause of your speech issues, I’d suggest researching both executive function and your specific speech issues, to see if they match somehow.

I agree so much with all of these! So many Disney characters are “social outcasts” and so it’s super easy to headcanon them as autistic (or otherwise neurodivergent)!
