Umm, writing "dave's bro" doesn't work for me ("no suggestions found").. Same for Alpha Dave and Alpha Rose or any variation of their names. They do appear on the ship list though, hmm. What am I doing wrong??

We…have no idea why it’s not showing up in the drop-down menu! It’s definitely in the tag set, so it seems like AO3 is just hiccuping again. Sorry about that!

You can enter any character in our tag set. If you enter their name (“Dirk’s Bro” or “Roxy’s Mom”, etc.) and then hit comma (,) you should be able to add those guardians to your sign up—even if AO3 doesn’t show them in the drop-down menu.

If it still has hiccups, though, please do let us know.

Q: Also: is there a way to add a relationship that is not on the list?

You can add any relationship you want! Relationships aren’t restricted like the character list is. AO3 standards are to write ships alphabetically by last name, FYI!

Dave and alpha!Dave ☾ ☆ ▼ ♒ ൠ ♥

Holy crud, so many. I'm assuming you mean them as a contrast to each other, more so than as a ship, since Dave and alpha!Dave would only exist in the same place as an AU. Let's see... 

A Sleep Headcanon: Dave is an insomniac both as betaverse Dave and alpha!Dave. Betaverse Dave learned to cope with it through music and just wearing himself out physically when he can. Alpha!Dave never learned good coping skills for sleeping well; he just pushes himself to an extreme degree all the time because then he'll drop -- and sleep -- only when he's able, when he bothers to hold still. 

A Happy Headcanon: Dave has back dimples. You know the kind, little indents in the lower back over the butt, cute ones. This headcanon is totally happy, fight me. Also, when alpha!Dave sold his first script, he was so in awe and excited and determined to get super drunk and party hard in celebration, but he wasn't twenty-one so he ended up partying in Chuck-E-Cheese instead. (He bought several rounds of pizza and soda for all the kids there that night.) 

A Childhood Headcanon: When betaverse Dave was a kid, Bro was actually weirdly doting on him, so he always had the cool candy for Valentine's Day and class parties and had cool character backpacks Bro sewed for him. Alpha!Dave I most frequently headcanon as having been fostered as a child, and I like the idea of him having that one childhood teacher who really encouraged him in his creative pursuits (which he would then go on to ridiculously make bank from). 

A Food Headcanon: Alpha!Dave can cook, but only on a basic level. He didn't learn how to do anything fancy, he just learned to do simple things well so he could take care of himself most aptly. Betaverse Dave is a bottomless pit. That's it, that's the entire headcanon, I like beanpole Dave so it's a total case of "that kid does not look like he could put it away but good lord can he devour a meal meant for three if he wants to. 

A Random Headcanon: Both versions of Dave actually have perfect pitch. 

A Family Headcanon: With the canon timeline, alpha!Dave totally knew that Dirk was coming, and that he wouldn't get to be there by the time his brother showed up. He spent years setting up for Dirk as best he could because that was the best facsimile for raising Dirk that he could manage. For betaverse Dave, my favorite non-canon "family dynamic headcanon" is that Bro is Dave's biological dad but just casually never spells this out and tells Dave to call him Bro and it just never goes contested.
