Katy Bellotte: A Social Media Role Model for the 21st Century
Sometimes people who are famous on social media pretend to be someone they’re not just to gain followers and attention. They’ll try so hard to post pictures in order to portray their lives in a certain light. I definitely thought this was true about all famous social media influencers, until I met Katy Bellotte. I didn’t know anything about her when I met her, besides the fact that she had a famous YouTube account called “hellokaty”. As I got to know Katy, it was clear to me that the person I watched everyday on YouTube was the exact person I got to be friends with. She ended up being one of the main reasons I chose my sorority, Zeta Tau Alpha, and she is someone that I look up to and go to for advice. I’m writing about her separately because she’s not only influential on social media, but she’s influenced my life.
Katy Bellotte got her start on YouTube, and today she has over 450,000 subscribers. Her content has definitely evolved over time as she has gained maturity and wisdom, and now she’s like a “big sister” for those on youtube looking for life advice. She’s so honest with her followers and relates every situation back to her own life. In her videos she opens up about her struggles transitioning into college, boy problems, and her own insecurities. She talks about the uncomfortable things that no one wants to talk about, especially on the internet. Even though her life is broadcasted on social media sites like YouTube and Instagram, she keeps it real and authentic. She even has a blog where she can be candid and express herself through writing “hard and clear about what hurts”.

Since joining YouTube 8 years ago, she’s had the opportunity to do so many amazing things like attend the Golden Globe awards and travel to London with the L'Oréal team. She’s constantly doing things to help our sorority, whether it’s planning or designing something for an event. We as a sorority are so proud of Katy and the wonderful things she’s going to be doing once she graduates. She truly epitomizes someone with a strong work ethic and ability to influence others, including me!
I don’t own any of these pictures or videos, they were taken from Katy’s Instagram and YouTube accounts
