can you link me your post where you compared the season finale of AOT to the manga and their differences? I thought the episode was weird too and would like to re-read it again to see how it fits with the manga. btw, I haven't read the manga

And here's an answered ask that I found that for the most part explains why the changes made in the anime were wrong.
Right now I would highly recommend that you read the manga. Though for the most part the anime does a fantastic job at translating the manga it does leave some things out. And it would definitely help to read it so that you understand what was changed.
And if you're interested I'm writing a post on how the last episode should have gone (though it's far from done.)
