Having been in different countries during Memorial Day since I turned 18, I never realized how many people stop and look at you when you are in uniform. I should know as I grew up with the man who once described this day as ‘a reason for people to notice servicemen’. I never could figure out if that was sarcasm. My old man is back in the States now, but I digress. I’ve gotten salutes, nods, and one kid came up to me and hugged my leg. I guess it’s not so bad. Now I can go home and drink a beer and watch baseball. Or do whatever it is you kids do these days. Netflix and chill?
