Derek Kolstad, the screenwriter behind the John Wick series, is collaborating with Amazon Studios to develop a live-action feature film based on the iconic Japanese action-horror manga Hellsing.

“Ever since my brother introduced me to the Hellsing manga and anime some years ago, I’ve been obsessed with adapting it,” Kolstad said. “And when Mike Callaghan and his team managed to secure the rights to then partner us up with Brian Kavanaugh-Jones and Amazon, I mean -damn, dude- this is a dream.”

Amazon Studios has announced that a live-action film adaptation of Kouta Hirano's Hellsing manga is in the works.

John Wick writer Derek Kolstad will write the script and produce along with Brian Kavanaugh-Jones and Fred Berger of Automatik, Mike Callaghan and Reuben Liber of Ranger 7 Films, Jason Lust of Soluble Fish Productions. Gemma Levinson is the executive on the project from Automatik. Executive Producers are Tetsu Fujimura of Filosophia, India Osborne, Pierre Buffin, and Jason Speer.

The Hellsing Movie

I’m not sure what to think about the news regarding the live action-adaptation. They tend not to be very good (to put it delicately), but then again John Wick is a great film. I want to be cautiously optimistic, but I think I’m leaning more towards assuming it’ll be a trash fire. Hope to be proven wrong, but hey... at least we’ll be getting more content to discuss and post. Silver linings and all that.

What do you guys think? Excited about it or wary?

I just had a wonderful, terrible thought.

If they give Alucard his goofy ass hat in the Hellsing live action, he's going to look like a basic bitch going to catch a late brunch with the girls.
