Yes this is true. I think it's because in the Japanese version, his counterpart peppers his sentences with English words to sound cool, and he studied in America, like how the Von Karmas had lived in America as well. Exactly why they decided to equivocate this with German in the translation is beyond me, but I'm glad they did, because it's hilarious.
