Cute sorta Helmer and Picket fact..
As a fandom we seem to think Helmer isn't a hugger but, im my reread of the books it seems pretty much anytime Helmer and Picket hug, Helmer was the one to ininitiate it!
Awww <3
Helmer likes his ladybugs 🥹🥰
I didn't want to wait to post these separately, so here they are. Under the cut
Helmer and the Dragon Tomb Spoilers
Helmer being fond of ladybugs right from the beginning was everything to me.
Helmer: That’s why we needed to get an expert. Jo: Oh, really? Who did you get? Helmer: stares Jo: Oh! Right, that’s me… Yes.
I finished Helmer in the Dragon Tomb today and I just gotta say (spoilers below bar)
FIRST OF ALL, Helmer being fond of ladybugs!?!?! NOT ONLY IS THAT CUTE, BUT IT TELLS ME HE LIKED PICKET RIGHT FROM THE VERY BEGINNING. Even when he didn't show it.
Second of all, Helmer being trained by the literal Prince Jupiter is so cool. It brings so much more depth to his character. Picket getting wisdom passed down from Prince Jupiter ("Everything's a weapon." And the gauntlet) is fantastic.
Third of all, I'm glad Mr. Smith added Prince Jupiter into the story, so I could personally fall in love. I know he was a part of Helmer's history, and in the lore of the Green Ember, but I only got second-hand admiration from reading the main series. Now I KNOW he's cool.
I'm excited to see where all the other characters will appear. People like Captain Fry, and Garten Longtreader. I really want to see young Helmer surrounded by all these cool friends from the main series, and see how his relationship develops with them.
The horrible, dirty rotten writer gremlin in me kinda wants to see Helmer fall in love. Knowing that in the end, he never gets married because she's probably DEAD. Because seriously, you can't expect me to believe a young, adventurous buck like Helmer never finds a pretty doe he wants to spend the rest of his life with. But you CAN expect me to believe that he found one, she died in the war, and now he's all grumpy and mean and never wants to speak to a female ever again.
